Summary

A Drill Locater II operates various equipment in conjunction with locating duties. i.e. Directional Drill locating, Hydrovac, Excavator, etc. They are responsible for knowing utility color codes to determine utility paths via locate paint or locate flags of utility placement and possess the ability to read the job layout to include looking for non-located utilities. They will also assist in training or leading other crews.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned:

  • Communicate with drill operator to assure safe and efficient operation of the drill with continued updates on the drill head location.
  • Locate/operate, trench, place duct, pull cable, and direct bury main-line and drops. Locate & verify all utilities before construction using multiple methods.
  • Read blueprints and understand utility placement standards
  • Maintain a professional demeanor with employees, customer and public always
  • Ensuring company assets (vehicles, equipment, tools, etc.) are properly and continuously maintained in good repair and secured in a safe manner
  • Organization of materials to complete excavation requirements, which may include basic hand tools, mechanical and hydro excavation
  • Maintain bore logs and daily production reporting
  • All other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, and/or QUALIFICATIONS

  • 5-8 years of experience locating for a directional drillA valid CDL class A license is required or ability to acquire within 90 days
    • We will assist in obtaining a CDL
  • A demonstrated working knowledge of telecommunications
  • Full understanding of utility colors and meanings
  • Ability to locate drilling in both standard and high-risk areas, such as areas with live utilities
  • Ability to listen to and implement directions
  • Knowledge of operation and maintenance of equipment
  • Knowledge of Underground Construction practices
  • Able to use Ditch Witch locating equipment
  • Ability to perform and/or instruct entry level skills and practices as required
  • Ability to read, comprehend and carry out instructions
  • Effective listening, interacting, and writing skills
  • Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment screening that includes background and drug testing
  • Valid drivers license and driving record meeting the company policy conditions
  • Must be in good physical condition with the ability to stoop, crawl, bend at the knees and waist, squat and lift 80 lbs; includes body weight, equipment, tools and boxes
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time on varied surfaces
  • Position requires working outdoors in all types of weather and near vehicular traffic
