Position Summary

This position manages drilling specific engineering and operational aspects of the planning and execution of asset development plans, including the review and monitoring of annual budgets. The Drilling manager is responsible for ensuring that outputs from the drilling team are designed and delivered to meet the agreed business objectives with regards to design parameters, operational risks, production optimization, safety, and cost effectiveness. The role is focused on striving to achieve top quartile cost, EHS, ESG, and efficiency performance. This position has the ability to modify technical guidelines and makes independent decisions that are typically not subject to technical review based on operational safety and logistics. Acts as an interdisciplinary coordinator to ensure efficient project execution. Additional responsibilities include making recommendations on hiring, promotions, or status changes of personnel.

Essential Roles & Responsibilities

In addition to the technical roles and responsibilities of a level V engineer of the specific discipline, the manager is also responsible for the following:

* Manage drilling teams, including engineers, technicians, and rig supervision, ensuring coordination and efficiency.

* Provides project management leadership in the development of existing assets, especially in achieving discipline specific annual budget targets and the acceleration of existing and future field development projects.

* Leads team meetings, acts as a key liaison with internal organizations in the coordination of multi-disciplinary team projects to ensure efficient project execution.

* Responsible for communicating team results and status of active and planned projects to operations management team.

* Stays abreast of latest technologies in specific engineering discipline and brings appropriate innovation during execution to remain ahead of competitors for cost reduction, minimizing safety exposure, and improvement in efficiency.

* Provides engineering discipline input into the budget process, specifically operations scheduling and drilling cost estimation, as well as future cost projections.

* Acts as a key liaison with contractors, suppliers, and competitors.

* On-call support, including nights and weekends is required. Also available for short notice trips to field locations to respond to operational variances.

* Availability for routine field trips to assess operations, provide leadership presence, and celebrate accomplishments.

* Conducts business with the highest ethical standards; demonstrates decision-making skills that ensure the safety of all persons associated with SM operations

Computer/Software Applications

Advanced level of skill in Microsoft Office, especially PowerPoint and Excel. Experience leading others with industry/company software skills including, but not limited to Wellview, Power BI, and Spotfire.

Role-Specific Technical Knowledge & Skills

* Advanced ability to apply extensive and diversified knowledge of discipline (drilling, completions, and production) principles, advanced techniques, modifications, and extension of theories.

* Understands and has knowledge of multiple basins/resource plays within a Region and has experience in other plays within the US.

* Work closely completion group to optimize well handoff's, frac operations, drill out operations, and cost

* Work closely with supply chain group to ensure contractor compliance on pricing and terms

* Supervise well-site operations in a safe and efficient manner.

* Work closely with EHS to ensure contractor and employee safety and environmental compliance.

Typical Education

Bachelor's degree required. Bachelor of Science in Engineering (chemical, mechanical, or petroleum) is preferred.

Typical Experience

Minimum of 12 years of applicable experience. Minimum of 3 years of experience in leadership/management roles.
