DSHS ESA Public Benefits Specialist 5

The Economic Services Administration, Community Services Division has a leadership opportunity for a Public Benefits Specialist Supervisor (PBS5) to join our team in the Contact Center North East Geo. Team (CCNE). In this role, you will supervise a unitof Public Benefit Specialists who are responsible for gathering information regarding public assistance for numerous programs and correctly determining the client's eligibility. The ideal applicant will possess skills to develop, cultivate, and evolve the staff they lead and be creative in helpingtheir staff obtain job experience and knowledge while fostering an environment of growth.

Some of what you'll do.

* Supervise a unit of Public Benefits Specialists, ensuring compliance with policies, procedures, and performance standards through workload management and quality control.

* Conduct and arrange for technical and professional training for staff, including new hire onboarding and ongoing development.

* Analyze unit tasks, assign workloads, and monitor performance, including conducting employee appraisals and addressing performance issues.

* Hire new staff, recommend placements, and manage employee relations, including administering collective bargaining agreements.

* Develop and maintain partnerships with community organizations, respond to community requests, and address client complaints.

* Participate in management and supervisor meetings, strategic planning, and community outreach activities to further departmental goals.

* Serve as a member of the CSO management team, acting as a backup to the Administrator, and submitting periodic reports on unit operations.

What we're looking for

* In-depth knowledge of public assistance programs, including relevant State and Federal laws, regulations, and procedures.

* Strong understanding of determining eligibility criteria, with the ability to accurately interpret and apply program-specific rules and data.

* Proven ability to supervise, train, and develop staff, manage workload distribution, and maintain quality and productivity in a high-pressure environment.

* Exceptional communication skills, including the ability to express ideas clearly, handle difficult situations, and build effective working relationships across diverse groups.

* Analytical skills to evaluate performance data, identify trends, and make informed decisions to improve program outcomes.

* Proficiency in managing complex technical regulations and procedures, and effectively multitasking in a fast-paced office setting.

Who should apply?

* One year of experience as a Public Benefits Specialist 3 or 4

OR

* Bachelor's degree and three years of experience examining/processing medical insurance or rehabilitation claims, unemployment insurance claims, or a job providing staff support in public assistance eligibility determination, or in a job analyzing, verifying, and evaluating financial data and information

Out-of-state experience, conducting financial eligibility determination for public assistance to include financial, medical and food benefit programs can be considered toward experience

Related employment experience may substitute year for year for education
