Salary: $18.27 HourlyLocation : Davis, CAJob Type: Temporary Part-timeJob Number: 244736Department: Parks and Community ServicesOpening Date: 11/12/2024Description Dungeons & Dragons Club Recreation Leader City of Davis Parks & Community Services offers a beginner and intermediate level Dungeons & Dragons Club. The Recreation Leader positions are responsible for ensuring a fun-filled, healthy, structured and comfortable environment for all. This position assists in the planning, supervising and evaluating of all program activities, including assisting with the supervision of program volunteers, youth participants and program activities.Must be available to work Tuesday and Wednesday between the hours of 4:45 p.m. and 6:45 p.m., with additional time allocated for planning and writing campaigns. The program is scheduled to run between the months of February and May 2025, with potential future seasons available based upon demand.Wages: Community Services Specialist V - $18.27 per hour Status: Temporary part time, no benefits. Applicants will be screened according to experience relevant to this position. Those most qualified will be invited to an individual or small group interview beginning in January 2025. Examples of DutiesResponsibilities:
  • Plans and facilitates Dungeons & Dragons one-shot and 6-week long campaigns
  • Teach Dungeons & Dragons rules to participants 8 - 15 years old
  • Scales game format and difficulty for newer players
  • Maintain an inclusive environment for all participants
  • Directs conversation and encourages active participation among players
  • Works alongside other Recreation Leaders to collaborate and plan sessions
  • Utilizes time effectively to ensure campaigns are able to finish within the allotted sessions
  • Sets rules with players regarding behavioral expectations
  • Communicates with supervisory program staff regarding participant behavior, injuries, and other relevant matters.
  • Provides feedback to supervisory staff regarding the operations of the program.
  • Assures that all equipment and facilities are safely and properly prepared and maintained.
  • Keeps work environments clean and organized.
Typical QualificationsQualifications:
  • Must be 18 years or older prior to the start of the summer programs.
  • Certified in CPR and Standard First Aid prior to the start of the program.
  • Ability to demonstrate energy, enthusiasm and creativity in the job position.
  • Ability to motivate and lead youth participants.
  • Having knowledge of recreation activities, child development, behavior management practices and community resources is desirable.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and communication with other program staff and community members.
  • Having related experience working with children is highly desirable.
  • Must be able to complete a list of other required online trainings prior to the start of the program, including but not limited to, Sports Concussion and Sudden Cardiac Arrest Protocols, Mandated Reporter, Sexual Discrimination and Harassment, etc.
Physical/Sensory Requirements:Staff should be prepared to work both indoors and outdoors, in various environmental conditions each week. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. Work is done both indoors and out, with exposure to heat and cold, noise, dust, pollens and slip hazards when near water. Potential for exposure to blood borne pathogens when rendering first aid. Must be able to complete additional trainings, including but not limited to: Blood Borne Pathogens, Mandated Reporter, Prevention of Harassment and Discrimination.
