We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated individual to join our team as a Shelter Assistant, specializing in supporting survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. As a Shelter Assistant, you will play a crucial role in providing support, advocacy, and resources to individuals and families seeking refuge and safety from abusive situations.We Offer

  • Provide direct support and crisis intervention to survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault and their children residing in the shelter.
  • Assist with the intake process for new residents, ensuring their immediate needs are met.
  • Collaborate with shelter staff to create a safe and supportive living environment for residents.
  • Conduct safety assessments and develop safety plans with residents.
  • Facilitate support groups and educational workshops on topics related to domestic violence and sexual assault.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation of services provided.
  • Participate in regular staff meetings, trainings, and supervision sessions.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience working with survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed care principles and crisis intervention techniques.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical guidelines.
Additional Expectations
  • To ensure the safety and well-being of the individuals we serve, a criminal background screening, including Child and Dependent Adult Abuse registry check is required for all employees and volunteers. Conviction of a crime will not automatically disqualify you from employment; the nature, severity, and recency of the crime will be considered in relation to the position.
  • FBI fingerprinting.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
