DescriptionPosition Summary:The Instrument Technician reports directly to the Electrical Superintendent and is responsible for the installation, testing, calibration, inspection, and repair of control systems equipment. The incumbent inspects meters, indicators, and gauges to detect abnormal fluctuations. The Instrument Technician performs general maintenance on equipment as needed.Essential Job Functions:
- Reads and interprets electrical schematics and B.O.M drawings, engineering prints/specifications, and/or verbal/written instructions
- Responsible for laying out, machining, populating and wiring of electrical control enclosures
- Assembles mechanical, and/or pneumatic components as required
- Performs inspection and repairs on control systems
- Performs preventive maintenance on all types of process instrumentation
- Performs troubleshooting tasks to diagnose and correct instrumentation problems in the field
- Calibrates instruments utilizing proper test equipment
- Maintains environment to include component replacements, alignments, and calibration to specifications of record
- Repairs signal transmission facility such as tubing, wiring, etc.
- Installs new control circuits, modification of existing instrument/electrical systems as requested, to include design, load and implementation of new control logic
- Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
- Current and valid Driver License
- Three years' experience in the electrical instrumentation field
- Experience wiring electrical controls panels
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:
- Strong mathematical knowledge
- Working knowledge of AC & DC control circuits
- Knowledge of applicable codes, standards and regulations
- Ability to read and write and comprehend
- Ability to read and interpret schematics and electrical specifications.

- Must be able to install electrical conduit of the various trade size and install instrumentation tubing
- Assist will electrical cable, cable tray and equipment installation as required
- Education: High School Diploma, or equivalent. Associate's degree or Trade School Certification preferred (1 year of directly related work experience may qualify to substitute 1 year of education to meet the education requirement)
Required Training & Certificates:
- Delta and Client Specific training as required
- OSHA-10 if available
- Current or willing to obtain a North Dakota Electrical Apprentice Certification
- Attends training sessions, seminars and appropriate educational classes required by department.
- Computer skills commensurate with program and job applications.
