This Opportunity

Our Earth and Environment Team is seeking an Early Career Water Resources Engineer to work out of our Gainesville, FL office.

Takes part in providing local technical assistance for the development of processes and infrastructure relating to water supply, hazardous or solid waste disposal, air emission sources, pollution control, and preserving the quality of the environment by averting the contamination and degradation of air, water, and land resources. Generates accurate and concise documentation, ensuring that responsibilities are delivered and adhered to with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards.

Your Impact

* Under general supervision, collect and compile environmental data from samples of air, soil, water, sludge, and other matrices for engineering analysis.

* Maintain quality control standards and procedures for accurate and precise measurements.

* Basic skills with water quality, hydrologic, and groundwater models; develop water budgets; understanding of structural components, specifically related to water resources design improvements.

* Prepare erosion and sediment control plans and water/sediment monitoring plans.

* Design, plan preparation, permitting and construction phase services.

* Work with staff on project tasks in a team environment.

* Strong commitment to company's safety program; follow company safety standards, site safety standards and maintain safe workplace practices.

* Assist with verifying the characteristics of a site, providing entry-level technical assistance on various environmental issues.

* Generate complete, accurate, and concise documentation using electronic systems and field/work site notebook.

* Comply with safety guidelines and site-specific procedures which include but are not limited to, the maintenance of sample collection, location data, statistical documentation, and logbooks.

* Complete training on assigned tasks.

* Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.

* Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

* Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, or closely related discipline.

* Excellent research skills with analytical mindset.

* Familiarity with the concepts of reducing and eliminating the use or generation of hazardous substances, processes, or products.

* Familiarity with relevant environmental laws, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.

* Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.

* Proficient self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.

* Ability to work independently under general supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives.

* Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation and communication software, technology, and tools.

* Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.

* Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.

* Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

* Proficiency in using the Suite of MS Office products.

* Strong oral and written communication skills; proven ability to prepare reports.

Preferred Qualifications:

* Engineer in Training Certification.

* Familiarity with discipline-specific AutoCAD, ICPR and HEC.

* Prior internship related to the degree of study and the specific engineering discipline.

* A member of and/or actively participate in local professional practice organizations.

* Knowledge in water resources engineering, including environmental, water quality, modeling, and construction oversite.

* Specific knowledge of the hydrology and water quality issues of Florida.
