Join a dedicated group of professionals that are making a difference in the communities we live and work in, all while having fun, enjoying great people and having great pay and benefits!Job Summary:The Early Childhood Behavior Specialist works with children and their families to provide intervention and behavior modification counseling for a variety of issues such as aggressive behavior, disruptive classroom actions, impulsiveness and difficulty working in groups. The Early Childhood Behavior Specialist participates as a key member of a multi-disciplinary team in the education of young children with emotions, behavioral and learning disabilities. In addition, the Early Childhood Behavior Specialist will support classroom teachers to ensure environments, curriculum, materials, schedule/routines, and interactions provided are high quality. He/she will also support the growth and development of Instructional Assistants and Aides when stepping into the classroom by modeling adult-to-child interactions, planning and implementing developmentally appropriate activities, and assisting in the creation and maintenance of a Tier 5 classroom environment. Additionally, the Early Childhood Behavior Specialist will support the sites as needed. Summary of essential job functions:Mental Health: Ensure implementation and compliance with all contracted partner requirements in regard to mental health and disability services. Support and train teachers on internal referral policies and procedures, and appropriate child behavior guidance and techniques.
  • Creation and implementation of age-appropriate Behavior Support Plans, Safety Plans, and Inclusion Support Plans to enhance children's social, emotional, and behavioral functioning
  • Provides coaching and modeling to staff to ensure that all supports are sustainable and effective
  • Provides 1:1 support to children to help them stabilize and increase their success in an early childhood classroom
  • Maintain the safety of children in all situations through the use of supervision and the implementation of various therapeutic techniques including Teaching Pyramid Framework, segments of Applied Behavior Analysis, Positive Descriptive Acknowledgement, crisis intervention, and prosocial teaching practices
  • Conduct observations of children in various settings to gather information on functioning
  • Collect and analyze data related to children's functioning to inform education planning, classroom support plans, behavior support plans, and classroom management strategies
  • Attend and participate in support planning meetings with families, staff and outside agencies, to include proper documentation
  • Demonstrate techniques that enhance problem solving abilities and enable growth and development
  • Record and document critical information in a timely manner
  • Communicate with parents/guardians, site staff, and supervisor in a professional and timely manner and be a positive role model
  • Work with linguistically and culturally diverse populations and classroom environments
  • Interact with children in a positive, nurturing, and therapeutic manner
  • Work with teaching teams to ensure that all learning plans include individualized supports for children with challenging behaviors or disabilities
  • Monitor children's progress to ensure activities are meeting the students educational and developmental needs
  • Become familiar and adhere to all Children's Paradise policies including Prosocial Behavior policy and Mandated Reporter policies
  • Provide accurate and timely performance feedback and coaching to staff. Identify performance improvement needs and work with Site Directors to monitor and ensure improvement
  • Provide guidance and assistance to staff in the delivery of high-quality programs and services
  • Prioritize the needs of teachers and develop credible and trusting relationships
  • Prioritize needs of staff, children, and families and be dedicated to meeting their expectations
  • Demonstrated diplomacy by approaching others about sensitive issues in non-threatening ways and fosters an environment conductive to open and transparent communication
  • Attends trainings, seminars, and does research to keep up with the latest information and best practices within the field
Classroom Support Services: Ensure implementation and compliance with all contracted partner requirements in regard to environmental and educational supports. Support and train teachers on educational curriculums, environmental rating systems, Teaching Pyramid practices including social/emotional materials and environments, and high-quality CLASS interactions.
  • Reviewing and updating Teaching Pyramid classroom supports such as picture schedules, appropriate routines, and social emotional literacy.
  • Ensure appropriate implementation of CPI approved curriculums, Creative Curriculum, Harvest of the Month, and Sparks Curriculum.
  • Support the professional development goals of the Instructional Assistants and Instructional Aides in each classroom teaching team under the guidance of the Embedded Coach and Quality Assurance Manager.
  • Model the highest level of quality care at all times to support the growth and development of Instructional Assistants and Instructional Aides.
  • Create developmentally appropriate hands-on activities that inspire not only the children, but the teaching teams in the classroom
  • Support the teaching team of each classroom as we all work together to ensure compliance with all Licensing regulations, agency policies and procedures and the Education Code as applicable. Reference CA Code of Regulations, Title 22 Sections 101215 and 101215.1 and Title 5.
  • Help with the creation and distribution of activity kits, calm down boxes, sensory toys, etc.
  • Support the Embedded Coach and Quality Assurance Manager with completion of tasks as related to staff training, classroom environments, adult-to-child interactions, curriculum, DRDP 2015, and overall quality of the program.

  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule in accordance with the needs of the center
  • Accept other responsibilities and projects as assigned
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in early behavior health, psychology, sociology, special education or other related field.
OR
  • Working towards a Bachelor's degree as stated above
  • 2-4 years in human service field or experience working with emotional, behavioral and psychiatric need.
  • Knowledge of and ability to use Microsoft Office software applications including Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.
  • Certified CPR/First Aid certification or the ability to obtain certification within two months of employment
  • Basic knowledge of the principles of child development
AND21 hours professional development annually, additional trainings and certifications as identified Physical Requirements
  • Ability to work at various locations, as needed.
  • Ability to walk, sit, and stand for extended periods to support community engagement events both inside and outside a building.
  • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds to support with movement of materials and supplies.
  • Ability to bend and squat in order to interact with children at community engagement and center events.
  • Ability to see to work on computer equipment or work with an appropriate accommodation.
