- A bachelor's degree in early childhood education or related degree, an elementary degree with a ZA or ZS Endorsement.
- A minimum of two years of successful experience in Early Childhood Education or related fields of education, and an in-depth knowledge of education of young children.
- Ability to work effectively with staff, parents and families and the community.
- Knowledge of child development and the coordinating roles of various components and programs within the department.
- Ability to provide consultant service to staff regarding child development and developmentally appropriate practice.
- Working knowledge of Head Start Performance Standards.
- Driving may be necessary for this position which would require a valid driver's license.
General Description:Provide technical support and assistance to classroom teachers as assigned, including direct coaching and mentoring of education staff to improve instructional practices and classroom quality. Work with families and staff and utilizing community resources. Assist families with meeting educational, personal, social, occupation and child & family related issues.Promote good public awareness by neat appearance of self and proper attitude.Essential Functions:
- Comply with all applicable policies, procedures, rules & regulations.
- Maintain a current knowledge of developmentally appropriate practice.
- Maintain CLASS and Classroom Coach rater reliability.
- Support implementation of High/Scope Curriculum in the classroom.
- Provide guidance and practice-based coaching to the classroom staff regarding program practice and implementation.
- Regularly observes and assists in the classroom setting.
- Coaches/mentors assigned ECE teachers by assisting in the planning, development, execution and assessment of high-quality practices and interactions. Provides reflective feedback on techniques of instruction. Completes CLASS and Classroom Coach assessments on assigned classrooms.
- Provide new staff orientation and assist with implementation of staff mentoring programs.
- Participate in meaningful parent training, distribution of parent surveys, parent education, involvement, development and family support activities.
- Responsible for the coordination and completion with the Health Services and Family & Community Partnerships Coordinators the intake process and interviews with families.
- Assist with the planning and implementation of the following health service areas of medical, vision and hearing, dental and health and safety.
- Enter child and family information into the Child Plus data system on a regular basis.
- Assist with coordination of the Health and the Family & Community Partnerships Service Areas with all other service area coordinators and the administration.
- Assist center base and home base staff in promoting community involvement between families and specific agencies, groups, businesses and services in the community-at-large according to identified goals and objectives in Family Partnership Agreements.
- Workable knowledge of all performance standards and related tasks and activities in the Health Services and the Family & Community Partnership Component Area.
- Coordinate with center staff and the Family and Community Partnerships Coordinator monthly center meetings and activities.
- Maintain knowledge of Policy Council formation, orientation and meeting & activity structures throughout the Program Year, including monthly meetings, financial reports and agenda, minutes and parent communication.
- Attend Policy Council Meetings as deemed necessary by the Administration.
- Relate correspondence and information from ACYF to staff and families.
- Assist and encourage parents in becoming members of community, regional and state groups, committees and organizations.
- Share the responsibility for staff development as it relates to health and the formation of partnerships with parents, families and community.
- Facilitate with office staff ongoing training for parents relating to their roles and responsibilities in each component.
- Assist in the recruitment of children, attend parent meetings and conduct home visits as required.
- Participate in all staff meetings and on-going training to further develop the necessary skills/knowledge.
- Maintain all child and family records and information in a safe and confidential manner.
- Participate in ongoing professional development, both formal and informal, for enhancement of individual abilities, skills and knowledge required for maximum job performance.
- Must have regular and reliable attendance.
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide monitoring, guidance and oversight with the Director to ensure that staff work in team partnerships for the benefit of enrolled children and families in accordance with program standards and practice.
- Serve as a positive role model for DIISD constituents demonstrating how to be a responsible citizen and productive member of society.
