Job Description:

Must-Haves:

  • BA in Early Childhood Education or Child Development (other major acceptable if NYS eligible)
  • 1+ year of experience in a childcare setting or working with children
  • Bilingual in one of the following: Spanish, Punjabi, Farsi, Creole, Ukrainian, Mandarin

Demonstrated ability to provide instruction for the Early Childhood age level population from birth to 8 years old

Demonstrated ability and desire to provide effective management skills and techniques for an immigrant Early Childhood age level population from birth to 8 years old

Ability to work independently and collaboratively with other staff, as needed

Plusses:

  • NYS Teaching Certification in any of the following areas are preferred:
  • Early Childhood (Birth Grade 2)-Nursery,
  • Kindergarten and Grades 1- 6 (N-6) or
  • Prekindergarten Grade 6 (P-6)

Day-To-Day:

Our client's Safe Haven Shelter and Transitional Foster Care Program is a 24-hour program that serves unaccompanied children in immigration custody who are awaiting release to their sponsors. The Bilingual Early Childhood Teacher provides a basic education curriculum to children from birth to age 8 in an assigned age level classroom. The teacher must have strong management skills and techniques that can foster the physical, social, emotional, and intellectual growth of the children. Bilingual Early Childhood Teachers are classified as essential workers, and as such accept responsibility for the completion of their critical services to clients, on site, even during times of emergency. These include, but are not limited to, emergencies caused by weather, nationwide pandemics, civil unrest, and domestic threat. Duties include the below:

Oversee and provide classroom activities and instruction tailored to meet the childrens overall developmental goals.

Develop curricula and enrichment activities that will encourage student interest and participation.

Prepare weekly lesson plans for all instructional periods.

Monitor and record progress of each student in program database.

Maintain an appropriate physical environment in the classroom or work area.

Maintain appropriate safety measures to ensure the protection of the children and staff.

Consult with Clinician to identify children with special needs or behavior needs.

Plan field trips and outing activities to experience sensory based learning.

Communicate and work with Child Care Workers to support childrens behavior and ratio.

Participate in weekly team meetings to provide educational updates.

May be required to support other classrooms if/when needed.

Prepare reports and other duties as needed, as well as supervise Education Intern and Teaching Assistant.
