Come join Civil & Environmental Consultants, Inc. (CEC) in Charlotte as a stream and wetland ecologist in the Ecological Services Practice. We have a great, high energy, multidisciplined office that is conveniently located in southwest Charlotte. In addition, we offer a flexible hybrid work schedule of 2 days work-from-home or 1 day off every other week. Other benefits include performance and spot bonuses, paid overtime for work over 40 hours per week, CEC stock ownership program available to all employees, internal training, mid-year and end-of-year performance reviews, and goal setting.

As an ecologist, you'll have the opportunity to participate in tasks ranging from field data collection, stream and wetland assessments, and report writing/permit application preparation to stream restoration and a variety of public and private sector projects. This position affords a mix of field and office work, supplemented with training in the critical areas of technical expertise, data interpretation, financial management, and client development. You'll be part of a team led by senior personnel who will mentor you through all stages of projects - from proposal to final deliverable. Potential candidates can range from a few years of experience to a seasoned project manager. At CEC, ecologists career path and potential are unlimited as we are on the same career path as the engineers and other scientists. We have several ecologists in senior leadership positions throughout the company!

Qualifications
    The qualified candidate will have approximately 4+ years of related professional experience;
  • B.S. in Ecology, Biology, Soil Science, Botany, Natural Resources or Forestry (M.S. a plus);
  • Self-motivated with effective organizational skills;
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple project tasks;
  • The ability to lead field work;
  • At least 2 years of experience performing Waters of the US stream and wetland delineations;
  • Experience interpreting Federal, State and local regulations such as the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality and South Carolina Department of Natural Resources; and
  • Experience in stream and wetland impact permitting and mitigation, under Section 401/404 Federal Clean Water Act Regulations, NEPA, FERC, or endangered species surveys is a plus.
