Purpose:

We are seeking an experienced Restoration Ecologist/ Natural Resource Specialist with a strong background in habitat restoration to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have at least five years of hands-on experience in restoring and managing large scale habitat restoration projects and hold a bachelor's degree in biology, ecology, environmental science, or a related field. The Restoration Ecologist will be responsible for planning, implementing, and monitoring ecological restoration projects, with a focus on permit compliance, ecosystem function, and sustainability. The individual will also need to have an understanding of mitigation planning and environmental permitting within California.

Responsibilities we will trust you with:

Project Planning and Implementation:

  • Design and execute restoration plans for various ecosystems, including wetlands, forests, grasslands, and riparian zones.
  • Conduct field assessments to determine site conditions, restoration needs, and potential challenges.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders, including landowners, government agencies, and community groups, to ensure project success.
  • Develop and manage project budgets, timelines, and resources.

Habitat Restoration:

  • Oversee the planting of native vegetation, removal of invasive species, and implementation of erosion control measures.
  • Monitor the progress of restoration projects, collecting data on vegetation, soil, water quality, and wildlife.
  • Adjust restoration techniques and strategies based on ongoing assessments and environmental changes.
  • Perform qualitative and quantitative monitoring on several different restoration projects to ensure compliance with various local, state, and federal mitigation requirements.

Compliance and Reporting:

  • Ensure all restoration activities comply with local, state, and federal environmental regulations.
  • Prepare and submit detailed reports on project outcomes, including recommendations for future restoration efforts.

Management:

  • Ability to manage workload, set goals, and meet deadlines/ expectations.
  • Must be able to work with and manage third party consultants for a variety of tasks.

Your areas of knowledge and expertise:

The ideal candidate demonstrates:

  • Bachelor's degree in Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science, or a related field (Master's degree a plus).
  • 2-5+ years of Habitat Restoration experience- ideally in Southern California specifically- preferred
  • A background in environmental permitting a plus (CEQA, NEPA, ITPs, LSAA, NWP)
  • Strong knowledge of Southern California native plant species, ecological principles, and restoration techniques.
  • Proficiency in using GIS and other mapping tools for project planning and monitoring a plus
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams.
  • Ability to work in various outdoor conditions, including remote or challenging environments.
  • Valid driver's license and the ability to travel to project sites as required.

  • The base salary range for this role is 90k-135k depending on experience
