Job Description:
The individual filling this position is expected to play a positive role in helping the College change as necessary to effectively carryout its mission.
The individual assigned to this position assumes duties and responsibilities which require electronic accessibility for college business during non-college operating hours and/or when off campus during regular duty hours.
The CBA PT Ecology Technician is directly accountable to the Program for the following duties and responsibilities:
* Perform water sampling and biological monitoring.
* Evaluate, maintain and calibrate scientific equipment.
* Coordinate oyster shell recycling program.
* Carry out shoreline and wetland restoration projects, coordinating volunteers as necessary.
* Bag and place oyster shell, and plant emergent vegetation in local water bodies to enhance estuarine habitat.
* Provide on-site, environmental education activities for local schoolchildren.
* Communicate and represent program objectives to public audiences.
* Operate and maintain canoes, kayaks, motorboats, vehicles and heavy equipment needed to support CBA programs.
* Train volunteers to collect data and be available to volunteers for technical support.
* Data entry and database maintenance.
* Assist with outreach events.
* Establish and maintain effective working relationship with community groups and ancillary agencies.
* Perform all other duties that may be assigned.
SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES
* Develop educational resources such as rack cards, pamphlets and other presentation types.
* Write newsletter and social media content.
* Research library and internet resources as directed to support CBA programs.
Requirements:
* High School diploma required; Associate degree preferred.
* Valid driver's license.
* Interest in the environment, non-traditional education, marine science
* Willingness to work on occasional weekend, early morning or evening hours.
* Willingness and ability to work in adverse weather, including cold, heat and/or rain.
* Detail oriented and possess a strong desire/ability to complete tasks in a meticulous and organized manner.
* Ability to engage with the general public in a positive and effective manner.
* Experience operating boats, trailers and/or heavy equipment, or willingness to learn.
* Familiarity with Microsoft Office software, internet/web browsers, and email.
* Ability to lift 50 lbs
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Public speaking experience.
* Ability to coordinate numerous competing projects simultaneously.

Classification: Part-Time
Rate of Pay: $16.00 per hour
Hours: Up to 29 hours per week
Location: South Walton Campus
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
