Job Description:
Primary Scheduled Hours: Days, 80 hours per pay periodJob Summary: Responsible for the management and direct supervision of patient care in the Acute Care and Emergency Departments. Plans and supervises patient care, manages nursing and support personnel assuring that appropriate continuing education is maintained, and resolves emergency and problem situations. Consults with staff, physicians and Nurse Executive on nursing problems and interpretation of hospital policies to ensure patient needs are met. Maintains performance improvement activities within the department and participates in CQI activities. Assists in formulating budget. Manages nursing services on a 24-hour basis for a group of clinical services. Responsibility typically includes developing or contributing to annual operation budget and monitoring expenses within prescribed parameters. Assumes 24-hour responsibility for the planning, supervising, and evaluating of the clinical care given to every patient that presents to this facility. Ensures comprehensive and continuous care for patients in both departments. Provide direct patient care as needed. Participates in the department's performance improvement activities.Essential Job Functions:
  • Oversees all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
  • Supports and maintains a culture of safety and quality.
  • Treats patients, families and staff respect and dignity. Identifies and addresses psychosocial needs of patients and family.
  • Communicates appropriately and clearly to physicians, staff, Nurse Executive, and administrative team.
  • Coordinates and directs patient care to ensure patients' needs are met and hospital policy is followed.
  • Maintains a good working relationship both within the department and with other departments.
  • Demonstrates an ability to be flexible, organized and function well in stressful situations.
  • Consults other departments as appropriate to provide to collaborate in patient care and performance improvement activities.
Education Background and Experience RequirementsMinimum Education:Bachelor of Science Degree in NursingRequired Licensure / Certifications:Current state Registered Nurse Licensure.BLSPALS certificationACLS certificationRequired Experience:Minimum of five (5) years of experience as an RN.Leadership or management experience in a hospital setting.Preferred Qualifications:Master's preferredProfessional Requirements:
  • Maintain regulatory requirements
  • Report to work on time and as scheduled; complete work within designated timelines.
  • Demonstrates the ability to adhere to the mission, ethics and goals of the District.
  • Demonstrates the ability to communicate with patients, guests and staff in a courteous, respectful and helpful manner.
