Position Summary
The editorial designer will work with the creative director on implementing the firm's creative vision, including the design and art direction of publications (including the signature publication, the quarterly print magazine, strategic reports and project publications), and a varied portfolio of organization-wide print and digital knowledge products.
Critical Outcomes
- Responsible for the visual presentation and layout of content in print and digital publications
- Creating engaging and visually appealing layouts
- Selecting and editing images, typography, and graphics
- Ensuring consistency and coherence across multiple pages or screens
- Work closely with editors and other content creators to develop visual concepts that effectively communicate the intended message and align with company brand identity and editorial vision
Core Responsibilities
- In collaboration with Creative Director design the layout of the publication portfolio, utilizing established page templates and styles to maintain consistency while pushing creative boundaries to enhance content and stay fresh and current. Publications include the magazine, research reports and monthly newsletters
- Assist in sourcing, commissioning, and/or creating artwork used both in print and online. This includes but is not limited to photography, illustrations, infographics, icons and animations. Conduct photo research of licensed photography.
- Prepare imagery to accompany online content
- Supervise the print publication process including use of online software to review digital proofs, and review of hardcopy proofs
- Work closely with Knowledge Team editors
- Stay abreast of current trends in digital and print publishing, sharing new ideas and insights
- Design collateral in support of Knowledge Team products as needed
Qualifications (Education and Experience)
- A strong portfolio of print and digital design
- Familiarity with the use of stock agencies and obtaining permission/licensing for visual assets
- Excellent typography, layout and conceptual design skills with a thorough understanding of visual hierarchy
- Thorough understanding of print publication and digital design processes and technical knowledge of print production
- At least 4+ years of experience in editorial publication design
- Expert knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, InCopy, Illustrator, Photoshop) and particularly, the InDesign/InCopy workflow.
- Knowledge and experience with accessibility standards a plus
- Strong attention to detail and high standard of quality
- Ability to maintain clean, organized design files and demonstrate strong organizational and time-management skills
- Ability to work in a highly collaborative work environment
