Only in Your State is searching for a creative and strategic Editorial Director to lead the site programming and guide its coverage. You will partner with Only in Your State's Sr. Brand Director to set the direction of its coverage of American travel. You will be the primary spokesperson for the brand, responsible for reaching existing and new audiences. You will oversee a staff of editors and writers and work closely with the team to balance both the editorial direction as well as the business needs of the site. You will be expected to continue Only in Your State's tradition of serviceable and well-reported journalism, sharpening its identity and evolving it further.What You'll Do
- Lead Only in Your State's editorial staff, directly managing the editorial team.
- Refine and enforce our voice, mission, and point of view, helping guide the team on important editorial decisions.
- Oversee daily publishing, as well as spearhead packages, holiday coverage, special projects, and theme weeks.
- Participate in and partner with editorial leadership at World of Good and the sales team to identify and execute on growth opportunities and new initiatives.
- Identify and train internal talent to cultivate and external talent to hire, ensuring a diverse range of voices is represented through our work.
- Manage the editorial budget and work alongside editors and writers to oversee the day-to-day editorial operations of the site.
- Partner closely with Social Media lead to develop 360-degree, multiplatform programming that will engage our audience no matter where they encounter our brand.
- Collaborate with the design team to create engaging branding and promotional assets for brand tentpoles.
- Partner with marketing team to provide editorially driven ideas that satisfy both audience and brand partnership needs.
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with travel industry journalists, creators, influencers, PR professionals, and thought leaders
- Foster accessibility, inclusivity and representation within our editorial coverage to align with Only In Your State's pillars of diversity, equity and inclusion.
- Provide guidance, mentorship, and constructive performance feedback to editorial team members, cultivating a collaborative and inclusive environment that values diverse perspectives and ensures equitable opportunities for growth.
RequirementsWho You Are
- Passionate about Only in Your State's content and audience
- 7-10 years experience creating best-in-class service journalism, ideally in the travel space
- Experience leading a content strategy for a direct-sold publishing business model
- Exceptional creative, editorial, time management, and leadership skills
- Commitment to smart, engaging storytelling, social listening, and creating meaningful editorial experiences for a diverse audience
- 5+ years experience managing a team of writers and editors across coverage areas

The actual base pay is dependent upon many factors, such as: training, transferable skills, work experience, business needs, and market demands.
