Coordinates the management of their respective program's education and enrichment services, including writing lesson plans and providing direct tutoring services. Provides intensive support to child and family regarding school meetings, IEP's, specialized tutoring, and on-going educational planning for the child. Assesses the needs of the children and their families and communicates with other staff members. Supervises Afterschool Assistants during on-site activities.RESPONSIBILITIES Children's Education
  • Develop and facilitate weekly lesson plans for school-aged children including oversight of the implementation of the plans by volunteers, Afterschool Assistants and other education staff.
  • Coordinate use of children's education volunteers with the Volunteer Coordinator.
  • Purchase supplies for the children's education program as budgeted and approved by the Director of Education.
  • Provide all statistical and program reports as needed for appropriate grant outcomes by collecting and documenting necessary data.
  • Encourage and facilitate parental involvement with children's education programming whenever possible and inform parents of family responsibilities connected with the activities.
  • Track children's educational progress and meet with teachers and school administrators concerning their progress and needs at minimum on a monthly basis.
  • Develop and monitor children's educational service plans, to include feedback and recommendations from: educational testing, psychological reports, IEPs, clinical staff, etc. to account for each child's unique educational, emotional and behavioral needs.
  • Assist parents with school enrollments, registration procedures, transportation and advocate for the children in the education system.
  • Plan, implement, and conduct educational and developmental activities for the children's services program to include, but not limited to: tutoring program, enrichment activities and summer programming.
  • Coach parents in appropriate discipline techniques and developmental activities/needs, when necessary, with direction from appropriate staff.
  • Complete internal or external mental health referrals when symptoms or problematic behaviors are observed during children's activities or individual meetings. Once the child is assessed by a clinician, collaborate with the clinician to implement appropriate supports and interventions during educational activities.
  • Serve as primary contact for their respective children's education program and serve as leader of their program for services delivery, including on site supervision of Afterschool Assistants.
  • Provide timely direction, written and verbal feedback to Afterschool Assistants.
  • Oversee the set-up and clean-up of their respective program children's education activities and ensure that children's education facilities are adequately maintained.
  • Perform educational, developmental and social emotional assessments as needed or required to maintain effective program implementation.
  • Maintain children's education files both paper and online in Collaborate per Education file policies.
  • Attend staff meetings and in-service training as needed or necessary.
  • Establish professional supportive relationships with all participants.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Staff Management:Coordinates the supervision and evaluation of staff under manager's direct and indirect supervision.
  • Provide supervision for staff as indicated on the agency organizational chart. Supervision to include regular and ongoing monitoring of work product and work habits; performance evaluations of individual staff as required by HR; review of job descriptions as required by HR; timely reporting to HR of disciplinary issues; and timely reporting to HR of performance excellence.
  • Maintain current knowledge of agency policies and procedures as they relate to personnel; monitor staff for adherence to policies and procedures; take corrective action as necessary to ensure staff is in compliance.
  • Conduct regularly scheduled meetings with staff to provide direction, guidance and oversight to personnel.
  • Consult with staff on a regular basis, addressing concerns and sharing ideas.
  • Provide timely direction and written and verbal feedback to staff.
  • Coordinate with the Academic Support Manager to ensure staff is fully trained and competent to perform the elements of their job as defined by their job description.
  • Ensure all staff are knowledgeable of agency policies and procedures and are compliant.
  • Ensure customer service standards are upheld by staff as outlined in ForKids Customer CARE Manual.
Customer Service:
  • Provide service to internal and external customers according to standards as outlined in ForKids Customer CARE Manual.
Financial Management:
  • Use agency resources (financial and non-financial) prudently.
  • Acknowledge and follow financial policies of the agency.
Grants Data Management:
  • Accurately complete all required data reporting in accordance with established guidelines.
  • Participate in all scheduled data collection trainings.
Community Engagement:
  • Participate in development and fundraising activities as needed and requested (ex: meeting with donors, providing tours, attending fundraising events).
  • Regularly engage, support and collaborate with volunteers to provide a meaningful experience.
Qualifications***Ideal applicant availability is Monday - Friday / 11a - 7p***Education and Experience:Bachelor's degree in education or related field, teacher licensure, and 2 years' experience as a public school teacher strongly preferred. A combination of a Bachelor's degree in education or related field with a minimum of 3 years' experience working with school-aged children in an academic environment may be considered.Essential Functions, Knowledge and Skills:
  • Considerable knowledge of social, economic and health problems as they relate to at-risk families.
  • Working knowledge of the McKinney-Vento Homelessness Act
  • Must be able to communicate and interact with children in positive ways.
  • Considerable knowledge of community and social agencies and resources.
  • Considerable knowledge of developing lesson plans, working with the education system, and/or providing tutoring services.
  • Ability to work with a diverse population.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to drive agency vehicles up to a 14-passenger van.
  • Valid driver's license with no more than three minor driving violations and/or accidents combined within the last three years, and no major moving violations in the past five years.
