Job Description:

The Education Department at Wagner College invites applications for a full-time Clinical Professor of Education in Literacy with a concentration in 1-6 Reading/Literacy Learning and Inclusive Practices. The non-tenure-track, nine-month appointment will begin on August 16, 2024. Opportunities for summer teaching available. After a successful first year review, selected candidate is eligible for a three-year renewable contract.

The department is nationally accredited by the Association for Advancing Quality in Educator Preparation (AAQEP) and prepares action-oriented educators committed to culturally responsive pedagogy, critical reflection and growth, and intercultural connections.

The essential duties and responsibilities associated with this position include teaching six courses per academic year, closely collaborating with colleagues on curriculum planning and development, advising undergraduate and graduate students, leading professional development workshops on current issues in literacy and schools, supervising student teachers, and coordinating field placements and literacy labs.

Candidates should be proven leaders with excellent interpersonal skills, a strong knowledge of current issues in literacy learning and pedagogy, and a willingness to work collaboratively with community partners, students, and colleagues.

Qualifications

* Ed.D. or Ph.D. in Reading/Literacy, Curriculum and Instruction, Special Education, or a closely related field. ABD will be considered.

* Demonstrated mastery to teach at the undergraduate and graduate level using different modalities and evidence-based practices.

* Experience working with pre-service and in-service teachers utilizing data to inform pedagogy.

* Demonstrated pedagogical expertise and experience in reading, literacy learning in early childhood/childhood, and language arts.

* Experience with student academic advising and field supervision at the undergraduate and graduate level.

* Commitment to culturally responsive pedagogy and intercultural connections and willingness to actively engage with community partners.

* Minimum of three years of teaching experience at the 1-6 level; with a strong background as a reading specialist, curriculum developer, literacy educator, or closely related field.

Additional Information

In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $60,000 - $65,000. Wagner College considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
