Job Description:

Scion Nonprofit has been engaged to conduct an immediate search for an experienced Legislative Advocate for our client, a wonderful Nonprofit organization that serves the California educational community! Based in Sacramento, the Legislative Advocate will utilize their expertise in school funding, LCFF, and Prop 98; remaining reformed in both proposed/current and state/federal legislation issues, policies, statues and regulations; and researches, analyzes, and evaluates ways to advocate for the organizations positions. This is a full time, direct hire role; hybrid in Sacramento.

  • Compensation range is $120-155k, depending on experience, plus benefits

What you will be doing:

  • Research, analysis, and impact evaluation of current and proposed federal and state legislative and budget issues including statues, regulations and policies; developing recommendations, presentations, and proposals on advice and strategic planning for implementation
  • Ensures Congress, legislators, and legislative committees understand Organization positions on proposed legislation
  • Manages design and implementation of Organization legislative strategy
  • Contributes to the development and communication of Organizations positions on issues, policies, and bills
  • Lobbies federal and state agencies regarding Organization's positions, including US Department of Education and State Department of Education
  • Advocate and represent Organization on state and national boards, advisory groups and committees; using interpersonal communication skills and collaborative relationships to support Organizations mission

What you will need:

  • In depth expertise in K-12 school public education funding policy in California, including Prop 98 and LCFF
  • 3+ years of experience in a legislative research, analysis, evaluation, or related governmental relations/advocacy experience
  • Demonstrated experience in representing/advocating for policy/position via multiple areas of communication, including writing reports and presentations; lobbying, attending meetings and public speaking; attending and testifying at hearings; etc
  • Experience utilizing interpersonal communication skills to create, maintain, and utilize professional working relationships
