Job Type Full-timeDescriptionThe Educational Specialist is responsible for the educational component of the Community Justice Support Center for assessing the educational levels of all new clients using Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) scale; assigning levels of instruction; providing instruction; and, facilitating the clients' taking of the HiSET tests, as appropriate. Additionally, the Specialist will participate in community outreach to help clients further their education.What You Will be Doing to Make a Difference in the Lives of Clients...
- Assess all new clients Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) for functional educational levels
- Assign clients to level of instruction commensurate with their Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) results
- Contact clients' High Schools for copies of diploma, where appropriate (if client states he/she has graduated)
- Contact appropriate state or third-party agencies to verify GEDs and HiSETs awarded
- Facilitate classes to include Adult Basic Education (ABE) and HiSET Preparation
- Maintain required educational records
- Facilitate Life Skills groups as needed
- Be familiar with educational resources in the community for referral purposes
- Participate in all staff meetings and staff supervision
- Represent BSCS in a professional manner at all times
- Work cooperatively with Office of Community Corrections (OCC), Probation, Parole and other agencies at the site
- Establish and maintain positive working relationship with other agencies and the community-at-large
- Provide accurate and timely documentation of services delivered

- Bachelor's degree in Education, Counseling or Human Services required (math, reading, language)
- Minimum of 2 years teaching experience required
- Certified by MA Department of Education, or pursuing certification
- HiSET certification preferred
- Experience with diverse populations preferred
- Acceptable CORI and SORI background record check as required by program
