The educationspecialist reports directly to the principal. This position is responsible for assisting the principal with supervision of teachers and classroom staff by providing the principal supervisory feedback on the performance of teachers and other classroom staff aligned to each position's appraisal standards. This position is responsible for providing instructional leadership, academic supports, and behavioral supports to the classroom staff and students assigned by the principal. (Required) * Minimum of two (2) years direct experience in providing and/or supervising classroom instruction. (Required) * Must have the physical ability to work effectively with students with challenging behaviors. * Administration and Supervision - K-12 is required within 36 months of hire date. ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES: *Responsible for assisting the principal with supervision of teachers and classroom staff by providing the principal supervisory feedback on the performance of teachers and other classroom staff aligned to each positions appraisal standards. * Responsible for assisting the principal with supervision of teachers and classroom staff by providing the principal supervisory feedback on the performance of teachers and other classroom staff aligned to each positions appraisal standards. * Collaborate with the classroom teacher and staff in the design of coherent instruction based on knowledge of subject matter, students and their individual needs, the community, and curriculum goals. * Monitor the teacher?s alignment, coordination, and delivery of IEP and instructional objectives with the Virginia Standards of Learning and SECEP instructional materials. * Understand, monitor, and implement, as needed, the requirements of the Virginia Assessment Program and district testing. * Verify that the teacher utilizes a variety of valid and reliable assessments in making data-driven decisions in planning instruction to improve student learning. * Verify that the teacher identifies individual, group, and classroom needs and that the teacher selects appropriate materials and resources to match the instructional abilities and individual needs of all students. * Is familiar with and utilizes, as appropriate, school and community resources to assist teachers in meeting individual instruction and transition objectives. * Plan, in collaboration with the teacher, model for the teacher, and assist the teacher, as needed, with the implementation of appropriate instructional content and research-based instructional strategies that create meaningful experiences for students. * In collaboration with the teacher and classroom staff, identify, analyze, and resolve instructional problems using effective problem-solving techniques. * Monitor classroom procedures and schedules to assist the teacher in maximizing on-task learning time for all students and to ensure a safe, positive learning environment. * Provide staff development consistent with classroom and program needs. * Assist the teacher in development and, as needed, the implementation of individual and/or group behavioral intervention plans that address the function of each student?s targeted behavior. * Coordinate Health Care Plan/Services for assigned students. * Demonstrate knowledge of and the ability to implement appropriately the IDEA, Virginia Special Education Regulations, and other governing regulations, including regulations regarding transition plans and services for eligible students. * Assist teachers in IEP development and implementation, including development of appropriate transition plans for eligible students. * Assist Summer Program teachers and staff with the physical arrangement of classroom space, preparation of instructional tasks, setup of IEP data collection documents, and review of existing behavioral intervention plans in June of each school year. * As assigned by Principal, coordinate, plan, and implement re-integration opportunities for students, as appropriate. * Use effective verbal, nonverbal communication techniques to foster positive interactions with the instructional team and community. * Support the teacher in forging partnerships with families to promote student learning at home, in the community, and in the classroom. * Work collaboratively with staff, families, and community resources to support the success of a diverse population. * Demonstrate professional, moral, and ethical standards, as well as personal integrity, in all interactions. * Take responsibility for and participate in a meaningful and continuous process of professional development that results in the enhancement of student learning. * Work in a collegial and collaborative manner with peers, school personnel and the community to promote and support student learning.
