Position Type: Certificated Professional/Educational ConsultantDate Posted: 10/11/2024Location: WIU Administration BuildingPOSITION: Educational Consultant (SS-6AS-EDEC) DIVISION: StudentServices SUPERVISOR: Student Services Supervisor SUPERVISES: No Supervisory Responsibility CLASSIFICATION: Exempt NUMBER OF DAYS: 200 COMPENSATION PLAN: Administrative Compensation Plan Education and Experience: Minimum Education: BA/BS and valid PDE Certification in Special Education or related field; Specialized certifications preferred Minimum Experience: 3-5 years directly-related experience; Speech Language Pathologist experience preferred General Definition: The Educational Consultant is a member of the WIU Training and Consulting (TaC) team accountable for providing leadership, professional development, technical assistance, intensive consultation and the interpretation of Federal and State Special Education Policy and Regulations to administrators, educators and parents regarding the implementation of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act and in supporting the initiatives of the Pennsylvania Department of Education. Members of the TaC team provide the most current, effective instructional strategies to meet the needs of each student in one to three of the following areas contained in Pennsylvania's Comprehensive System of Professional Development (CSPD): assistive technology, autism, behavior management, low incidence disabilities/least restrictive environment, multi-tiered systems of support, and transition services. Description of Duties:
- Assists in the identification of exceptional pupils through participation as a member of the multidisciplinary team.
- Assists instructional staff in the development of individualized education programs.
- Assists in the development, adaptation, and adoption of instructional materials to guide instruction toward meeting goals and objectives as determined by each pupil's individualized education program.
- Visits classes and consults with teachers on instructional methods, techniques, and assist teachers to evaluate pupil mastery of all annual goals and short-term objectives in the individualized education program.
- Assist in planning and implementation of professional development opportunities for professional and paraprofessional staff and families.
- Prepares and maintains correspondence and documentation of pupil information as appropriate.
- Participates in local inter-agency groups for the purpose of coordinating and increasing the efficiency and effectiveness of the delivery of special education services.
- Attends relevant trainings, workshops and conferences as directed by IU supervisor, administration and/or Board of Directors.
- Keeps current with the latest research and best practices in assigned area and with federal and state legislation regarding special education law, policy, and procedures.
- Provides professional development and responds to all routine requests for information regarding CSPD to all educators within WIU borders.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Executive Director or designee.
