Licensed Administrators - Position - Other Job Number 860####### Start Date Open Date 06/11/2024 Closing Date Related positions are contingent on board approval.Working under the guidance of the Executive Director, Whole Child Services and Support, the Educational Specialist, Student Engagement and Extracurricular Initiatives (Concentrations of Poverty) will identify strategies, resources, programs, and partners that will help schools in creating increased opportunities for students to explore their interests, pursue their passions, gain exposure to new ideas and experiences, and engage with the world beyond their schools. The Education Specialist will collaborate with partners within and outside City Schools to assess student interests and school needs, cultivate opportunities, and implement identified strategies, with a focus on supporting equity of opportunity and outcomes for students across Baltimore. The work of the Education Specialist will be geared toward promoting student wholeness, voice, agency, and leadership.Essential Functions
  • In collaboration with the Office of Family and Community Engagement and other relevant offices and community organizations, catalogue and map existing programs, partners, and resources that support student enrichment and engagement during and after school, and ensure that mechanisms are developed to regularly update this information.
  • Collaborates with schools to identify student interests and help identify and provide links to potential partners.
  • Leads a district-wide analysis of needs, gaps, and priorities for engagement and extracurricular programming and develop a corresponding report of findings.
  • Develops and manages a pilot project to increase extracurricular opportunities for two to three clusters of schools with a relatively high need for enhanced programming.
  • Develops a long-term proposal for increasing student access to developmentally-appropriate opportunities that enrich students' learning, expose them to new ideas and experiences, and help them connect with and lead in the community and the broader world around them.
  • Identifies potential partners, sponsors, and funders to support this body of work and collaborate with relevant offices to engage these entities.
  • In partnership with the Office of Accountability and Achievement and schools, track and report on quantitative and qualitative data related to student engagement and extracurricular programming, including drawing connections to students' feelings about school, as well as student attendance, behavior, and academic performance.
  • Establishes and maintains positive professional relationships with students, families, principals, assistant principals, community school coordinators, district office staff, external partners and others, as necessary for the performance of related duties.
  • Performs and promotes all activities in compliance with equal employment and nondiscrimination policies; follows federal laws, state laws, school boards policies and the professional standards.
Maximum Salary 107495.00 Minimum Salary 82017.00 Desired Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in education, social work, humanities, or related field. Master's degree preferred. Degree must be from an accredited college or institution.
  • A valid Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) Advanced Professional Certificate (APC).
  • Three years' experience working in a public urban system, preferably in Baltimore.
  • Experience working directly with children and youth.
  • Experience designing and leading student/youth engagement programming.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills, including the ability to make effective professional presentations and facilitate professional learning.
  • Ability to analyze data and use it to drive program plans and management.
  • Able to take initiative, efficiently handle multiple priorities, work independently, be flexible and be a collaborative team player.
  • Demonstrates the highest standards of integrity, professionalism, and respect for others.
  • Proficient in the knowledge and use of technical computer applications including Microsoft Office applications: Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
