Applications will be reviewed by Tulare County Human Resources & Development. As extra help positions become available, County departments with the job openings select the most qualified and appropriate applicant for the position available. The number of hours and duration of employment varies by each assignment. Extra help employees may work in a variety of County departments in locations throughout the geographic county area. Extra help employees may not work more than 1,559 hours in any fiscal year from July to June. An extra help employee who mistakenly works in excess of 1,559 hours in a fiscal year does not become a probationary or regular employee.Applications will be active for six months. If you are hired for extra help and you complete a work assignment and then if you wish to be employed again, you must resubmit an Extra Help application online.There are no benefits associated with extra help positions. Typical Duties Determine disposal charges based on materials, weight, volume and type of vehicle; measure vehicles and calculate volume and load amounts; weigh loads using a digital electronic scale; collect fees, issue receipts and balance daily cash; prepare, process, review and make daily deposits; maintain vehicle logs and fee records; explain fee rates and dump rules, and direct users to appropriate refuse sites; inspect or reject refuse materials; respond to questions and/or complaints or refer to the proper authority; enforce site regulations; prepare simple reports. Minimum Qualifications Education and Experience Requirements: Equivalent to completion of twelfth grade AND one year work experience involving the collection of money and dealing with the public.Knowledge of : Basic math sufficient to compute volume and fees accurately; security precautions pertaining to collection of money. Skill/Ability to: Work and communicate effectively with people of various education and socioeconomic backgrounds by respecting beliefs, interpersonal styles and behaviors of both clients and co-workers; operate contemporary office equipment inclusive of computer, keyboard, and all applicable electronic equipment; read, understand and follow rules and instructions; keep simple legible records; deal with the public in a friendly and courteous manner when giving information, directions and collecting fees.Additional Requirements: Must be available to work varied shifts and weekends. Must work at a landfill site with environmental conditions including dust and fumes. Position requires use of employee vehicle for daily deposit of collected monies and fees (mileage reimbursement will be paid). Desirable Employment Standards: Knowledge of County dumpling rules; ability to calculate measurements regarding volume and depth in order to charge the correct fees. Additionally, a background investigation may also be conducted, which may include a re-investigation every 10 years for some positions.
