FreshDirect currently seeks an Environmental, Health, and Safety (EH&S) Specialist for our manufacturing, warehouse, transportation, and express sites located in Manhattan, Brooklyn and Bronx with relevant years' experience in the field of EH&S and DOT safety. Reporting to the Director, EH&S, the successful candidate will be instrumental in promoting a culture of safety throughout all locations. The EH&S Specialist will assist the EH&S Team in the development and implementation of the Company's comprehensive EH&S Program. The responsibilities entail but are not limited to:
Responsibilities - Performs daily EH&S site inspections in all locations to ensure State, local and federal compliance are met with all operating procedures.
- Routinely audits all safety systems and departments to ensure OSHA and DOT compliance with all operating procedures.
- Recommends operational process modifications, as necessary, to mitigate risk through acknowledging deficiencies.
- Conducts incident investigations and follow through, including Employee and witness interviews, written statements, data gathering, and recommend appropriate corrective actions based on policies and procedures.
- Complete thorough and resonate incident reports and ensures all incidents have been properly logged and reported to all necessary personnel and channels.
- Reviews departmental investigation reports to ensure that corrective actions have been executed to eliminate recurrence and unsafe acts or conditions.
- Assists and supports all departments with safety training, including behavioral-based workplace and job function safety training programs.
- Maintains adequate supply of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for all location assignments.
- Prepares safety presentations, including trends and performance indicators, and presents data information to relevant teams.
- Delivers key safety concepts to support the Mission Zero road map to zero lost-time injuries and world-class performance.
- Additional responsibilities may be assigned based on the needs of the business.
Qualifications: Required - Bachelor's Degree or equivalent
- Three (3) years' hands-on experience driving safety and compliance in a busy, complex, multi-faceted warehouse, manufacturing, distribution environment.
- Must be able to work in a face-paced environment and work as a team player.
- Travel within the NYC region is required.
Qualifications: Desired - Knowledge of OSHA/DOT/EPA/NYC/FDNY regulatory requirements, policies, and procedures
- Bilingual: Spanish/English
- OSHA-30 General Industry Certification
- S-95 FDNY Certificate of Fitness - Supervision of Fire Alarm Systems
- F-01 FDNY Certificate of Fitness - Fire Guard for Impairment
- Experience with driving forklifts and/or powered industrial trucks.
General Skills - Excellent interpersonal, influencing, verbal, and written communication skills at all levels throughout a multi-tiered, multi-cultured workplace.
