The EH&S Technician will provide employee health and safety, industrial hygiene, and life critical standards guidance and support to the new R&D Center of Excellence. This role will fill the Chemical Hygiene Officer role for this facility. This role will also be responsible for managing the EH&S aspects related to relocating the facility and equipment and developing and maintaining a safety management system per Trinseo's safety guidelines at the R&D Center of Excellence. Secondly, the EH&S Technician will provide support to the TS&D and Scientist functions co-located at the CoE, after the EH&S requirements and processes have been established and validated. The role will be 100% EH&S for the first 9 months to one year and then move to 50/50% EH&S and technician.

This role will be located in Exton, PA once the new R&D Center of Excellence is established there in 2025

Responsibilities

Environmental

    Serves as facility Chemical Hygiene Officer
  • Establish Trinseo-approved Safety Management System for new location
  • Lead EH&S Management System Integration Activities
  • Represent Trinseo in EH&S site activities and meetings
  • Manage local Trinseo EH&S programs (eg. Respirator usage, industrial hygiene, knife policy, PPE etc)
  • Ensures facility is in compliance with company and regulatory requirements/guidelines relative to OSHA, NIOSH and ACGIH.
  • Manages EH&S related documents in the Trinseo Integrated Management System
  • Initiate and support Management of Change (MOC) for EH&S matters as necessary
  • Serve as facility MOC reviewer for EH&S topics
  • On-board new employees utilizing the Trinseo New Employee Orientation Process

Health & Safety

  • Leads in providing training for employees in matters pertaining to occupational health and prevention of exposures.
  • Reviews and develops effective training courses related to applicable safety regulations.
  • Participate and help drive Trinseo's Safety on Purpose program
  • Provides training for employees in matters pertaining to occupational health and prevention of exposures. Reviews and develops effective training courses related to applicable safety regulations.
  • Manage Occupational Health Program for the facility
  • Measures and evaluates of the effectiveness of hazard controls including, but not limited to personal protective equipment, ventilation, ergonomics, etc.
  • Participates / leads injuries and illnesses investigations.

Building Operations Support

  • Work with Building/Operations manager on safety systems / support for fit-out and commissioning of relocated and new equipment
  • General support of routine operations as needed
  • Technical support for routine compounding, molding, and testing of thermoplastic systems supporting TS&D and Scientists *after EH&S Systems and processes established and CoE permitted and functioning*
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Health, Safety, and Environmental disciplines OR Bachelor's degree with equivalent EH&S certifications or Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or equivalent
  • 3-5+ years work experience in the EH&S field, preferably in a chemical laboratory or pilot plant environment
  • Working knowledge of federal health and safety regulations.
  • Familiarity with polymer compounding, molding and physical testing
  • Motivated to learn environmental regulations and compliance.
  • Excellent judgment and problem solving skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and planning skills
