Summary: Under the direction of the EHS Manager, this position is responsible for determining, planning, coordinating, scheduling, and directing environmental, health, and safety activities to ensure compliance to regulatory agencies, complement the EHS management system, and protect human health and the environment. This position does not directly supervise other personnel. The incumbent communicates continually with all levels of personnel across all departments at Cleveland Operations. Externally, they communicate with OSHA, contractors, and compliance agencies. Job Responsibilities:
- Managing, coaching, leading, and motivating plant personnel to achieve the EHS goals and objectives and continuously improve.
- Assisting in the planning, directing, and coordination of EHS compliance activities through functional teams, the Director of Operations, and other EHS Department personnel.
- Acting as liaison between local manufacturing and maintenance organizations to assist in executing those groups strategic and tactical EHS plans.
- Assisting in the development and implementation of Health and Safety programs and activities for each plant to achieve, maintain, and exceed in compliance to relevant regulatory laws, standards, and policies and procedures.
- Coordinating Human Performance (Client) implementation including Error Prevention Observation processes and Critical 9+ compliance audits of employee behaviors and plant activities.
- Facilitating the implementation of health and safety systems including Industrial Hygiene programs.
- Assisting with the coordination and completion of designated EHS Audit Self Assessment Tool (ASAT) protocols and overall processes.
- Participating in investigation teams to assure prompt and thorough incident review and propose appropriate corrective action recommendations.
- Identifying and developing good working relationships with federal, state, and local authorities (i.e., safety, fire departments, etc.), as well as with appropriate internal EHS contacts.
- Developing, coordinating, and/or conducting EHS training programs.
- Coordinating and assisting in the execution of capital EHS projects to ensure compliance with requirements and timely completion including recommending EHS capital equipment purchases and other necessary equipment.
- Assisting in leading the towards the realization of world-class and contractor EHS processes.
- Assisting in creating Workers' Compensation requests.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Basic Qualifications:
- A Bachelor's degree in safety or environmental science, industrial hygiene, or a related field from an accredited institution.
- Minimum 3-5 years of EHS experience in a heavy manufacturing environment.
- This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), which requires U.S. person status. ITAR defines U.S. person as an U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. 'Green Card Holder'), Political Asylee, or Refugee.
Preferred Qualifications:
- A Master's degree in an EHS related field from an accredited institution.
- 5 or more years of EHS experience within a heavy manufacturing environment.
- EHS related accreditations, such as CSP, CIH, or CHMM
Working Conditions: This position involves moderate exposure to risk of accident and requires following basic safety precautions. Work is performed in a shared work environment divided between the outdoors, on the shop floor, and a typical interior office space. Possible exposure to hazardous materials in this position requires wearing full PPE, at times, to protect from such chemicals. This position requires moderate physical activity, such as walking, sitting, and standing for extended periods of time, in addition to kneeling, bending, twisting, reaching, climbing ladders, and some lifting. This position also requires a willingness to maintain a flexible work schedule. Additionally, it requires that the candidate participates in regular training sessions and retains active membership in the Cleveland Operations Emergency Response Team.
