Supports the plant manager and supervisors by achieving strategic results in relation to the EHS requirements and goals of the facility. Key Health and Safety Responsibilities
  • Plans, implements and coordinates safety programs and procedures
  • Keeps current with any changes in regulations and implements changes accordingly. Develops manuals, policies and procedures to ensure adherence to regulations.
  • Consistent collaboration with other facility/site safety staff to support consistency and knowledge sharing across all sites
  • Support and mentor the development of technical safety skills for team members and leaders in the facility
  • Articulate the safety vision and plan for the facility and engage the staff and team members in achieving that vision.
  • Conducts or coordinates team member training in areas of safety, regulations, hazardous condition monitoring, and use of safety equipment.
  • Ensures appropriate risk/hazard assessments are conducted and corresponding follow-ups are implemented to minimize and/or eliminate incidents that have the potential to cause harm to one of the Company's team member, contractors, or visitors.
  • Effectively communicates the health and safety goals, objectives, performance expectations, and metrics throughout the facility.
  • Partners with HR and the Worker's Compensation program seeking to identify opportunities for improved safety performance and cost reduction.
  • Performs and administers safety audits and inspects safety facilities, machinery, and safety equipment to identify and correct potential hazards, and to ensure safety regulation compliance.
  • Oversees facility safety inventory including supplies, equipment and training materials.
  • Analyze and utilize data to set safety priorities and develop action plans
  • Implements company and plant related policies
  • Supports efforts to achieve the facility's performance indicators
  • Lead safety initiatives and goals
  • Participates in and resolves internal safety investigations
  • Collaborate with company office and other facilities as required
  • May supervise subordinate staff
Key Environmental Responsibilities
  • Site contact for local, state, & federal regulators during plant site inspections
  • Continuing education and certification required to comply with environmental law and regulations
  • Compiling and assist with documentation demonstrating compliance with substantive and record keeping requirements (including compliance with all MACT requirements, i.e. SSM plan, work practice, calibrations/inspections, etc.)
  • Assist with annual emission inventories
  • Working with plant personnel to verify control measures are being maintained
  • Assist with reporting compliance status with all permit conditions. This includes annual and semi-annual reporting to state and federal Agencies. This also includes building and modifying spreadsheets (forms) to meet these regulated requirements.
  • Training & certification required to comply with air pollutant (opacity) limitations.
  • Assisting with continuous compliance with storm water permit requirements
  • Assisting with implementation of SWPPP and NPDES permit.
  • Ensuring that routine inspections are properly conducted.
  • Assisting with storm water sampling and control measures with assigned plant personnel.
  • Assuring results are in compliance with state/federal permit conditions, if not, coordinating control measures.
  • Filing records and tabulating data.
  • Ensuring adequate employee spill prevention and response training and documentation.
  • Assisting with permit required sampling and control measures with assigned plant personnel
  • Assisting with routine inspections and monitoring.
  • Assuring results are in compliance, if not, coordinating control measures.
  • Assisting with records, compiling, and tabulating data.
  • Assisting with implementation and updating of SPCC Plan.
  • Ensuring that routine inspections are properly conducted and spill kits are maintained.
  • Ensuring adequate employee spill prevention and response training and documentation.
  • Hazardous waste determinations
  • Inventories of all hazardous chemicals used and waste streams
  • Sampling and analysis of materials to identify compliance status
  • Record keeping and inventories to verify generator status.
  • Assisting with proper disposal methods.
  • Training & certification required to comply with hazardous materials
  • Maintaining up to date plans (SWPPP, SPCC)
  • Assist with EMS Program
  • Schedule and conduct meetings with EMS team
  • Conduct audits of SOP's and note changes or updates
  • Lead 72 hour calls and investigations related to environmental incidents
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree in EHS Management, Environmental Science, or related subject AND 5+ years experience in EHS leadership position OR an equivalent amount of training, education, or experience
  • Expert level understanding and working knowledge of applicable Environmental and Safety Regulations
  • Excellent interpersonal, listening, written, verbal and electronic communications skills.
  • Strong teaching, coaching, facilitation, and mentoring skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Excellent problem solving and investigation skills with a focus on root cause analysis and development of sustainable corrective actions
  • Ability to build high trust work relationships at all levels
  • Demonstrated results in achieving and sustaining business goals.
  • Knowledge of business and financial concepts.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Certified Safety Professional, Certified Industrial Hygienist, or Professional Engineer
