POSITION SUMMARYThe primary role of this position is to provide environmental, health, safety and security support to ensure continuous improvement and compliance.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS - Oversee the required training in all areas of EHS compliance including but not limited to: PSM requirements, RCRA, big five (hot work, lockout tag out, confined space etc), emergency response, confined space rescue, first aid, forklift/manlift, DOT, IATA, and behavioral based safety. Maintain a training grid, schedule the training and ensure completion.
- Lead site efforts to comply with Ortec internal EHS programs by working with EHS director and peers to ensure EHS continuity across the company
- Implement corporate level changes to site programs as appropriate
- Understand the basic principles of process safety and participate on the site's process hazard analysis, and capital project safety reviews. Follow up on the EHS action items
- Schedule, lead and complete the communications for the site's incident investigations. Drive completion of follow up action items
- Manage the site's near miss program by leading meetings, communicating successes, ensuring action itemfollow completion.
- In partnership with the safety team and site management team, develop the content for the safety team meetings. Lead and encourage others on the safety team to develop expertise and deliver safety messages
- Participate on the emergency response team and lead refresher training
- Coordinate with fire department and LEPC for emergency response training and yearly walk through of the site to maintain familiarity
- Help coordinate celebrations for EHS&S successes and participate in the site recognition program
- Manage the site's peak participation and drive continuous improvement in behavioral based safety including safety contacts, tracking of at risk behaviors, while driving the safety team to lead initiatives.
- Track incidents, observations and behaviors in corporate safety tracking systems
- Participate in the weekly safety and quality rounds and complete daily walk throughs ensure employee and contractor safe behavior.
- Perform a periodic audit of closed work permits and a quarterly audit of in process work permits to provide feedback on any concerns/areas for improvement
- Oversee various areas of the site's PSM requirements including: contractor safety management, incident investigation, employee participation and work permitting
- Be the liaison for any environmental audits and lead the creation of action items for findings
- Complete an internal audits of other Ortec sites as required by the Director of EHS
- Lead site leadership team on any site goals regarding EHS (waste cost reduction, waste handling improvements, off site noise reduction etc)
- Oversee the site's industrial hygiene program, and hearing conservation program in accordance with corporate requirements
- Complete the weekly hazardous waste inspection and assign action items to close gaps
- Complete a monthly site security audit and coordinate with site Maintenance Manager and the Director of EHS to resolve findings
- Attend huddles for the various workgroups (production, shipping, QC, maintenance, R&D) regularly and discuss and follow through on any EHS&S concerns.
- Participate in corporate EHS meetings, training and calls to ensure site alignment with corporate goals
REQUIREMENTSEDUCATION - BS in Chemistry or BS Chemical Engineering preferred
SKILLS & ABILITIESPrior chemical or pharmaceutical manufacturing experience is strongly preferredPreferred: Root cause analysis, Hazwoper and/or Incident commander trainingBasic project management training preferredExperience with hazardous waste regulations, RCRA and Industrial Hygiene programs preferred
