Job Details

Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities

  • Conduct field investigations to analyze electrical equipment, products, and wiring system failures or accidents, including those related to lightning strikes, electrocutions, electrical fires, appliance malfunctions, consumer product failures, and commercial equipment issues.
  • Perform detailed electrical evaluations of damaged components to identify root causes of failure.
  • Utilize electrical engineering principles in accordance with industry standards to support investigation analysis.
  • Conduct unbiased investigations both in the field and in laboratory settings for various clients.
  • Present findings to clients in a clear, professional manner, building relationships and promoting services.
  • Communicate technical conclusions clearly in both written and verbal formats for non-technical audiences.
  • Provide expert testimony as needed to support findings in legal proceedings.

Position Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering (Master's Degree preferred).
  • P.E. (Professional Engineer) registration obtained through examination is required.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of professional experience in electrical engineering (additional experience is preferred).
  • Knowledge of power systems, controls, and the National Electrical Code (NEC) is beneficial.
  • Interest in fire-related investigations (training provided).
  • Strong oral and written communication skills are essential.
  • Public speaking experience is a plus.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to travel up to 25%, primarily by vehicle.
  • Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 80 lbs.
  • Capable of removing large or heavy artifacts from fire scenes and carrying investigation equipment (e.g., shovels, cameras, evidence cases) up stairs.
  • Must be able to shovel fire debris for extended periods (up to 3–4 hours).
  • Ability to maneuver through and around buildings, climb ladders, and access confined spaces.
  • Willingness to drive to site locations at varying times and fly as needed.
