The University of Iowa Building Operations & Maintenance Department is seeking an Electrical Engineer. This position provides electrical engineering subject matter expertise in support of UI's Asset Optimization Services Team. Using knowledge of campus buildings, existing systems, adopted codes and technical standards, this position provides guidance and direction to internal and external stakeholders to ensure cost effective and efficient building systems design and installation. This position will have a dotted reporting line to the Associate Director, Design & Construction that oversees Quality.
This position is eligible for hybrid work within Iowa and will require a work arrangement form to be completed upon the start of your employment. Per policy, work arrangements will be reviewed annually, and must comply with the remote work program and related policies and employee travel policy when working at a remote locationDuties to Include:- Ensure construction and maintenance projects adhere to campus standards, reviews project specifications, and makes recommendations based on total cost of ownership principles.
- Assists in developing owner project requirements and evaluates design documents to determine if objectives are satisfied.
- Maintain records related to the commissioning of buildings.
- Interact with building users to determine design parameters, apprise them of options to achieve their expectations.
- Reviews all design and construction projects on campus for compliance with codes and UI standards.
- Provides input and guidance on a wide range of campus planning initiatives.
- Maintains campus technical standards with regards to building electrical systems.
- Select consultants and evaluate work performed by consulting engineers and architects. Establish project-specific requirements.
- Resolves complex deficiencies identified in ongoing construction work.

Required Qualifications:- Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
- Professional experience (typically 3-5 years); in electrical engineer role building construction/design/maintenance and drawing design review.
- Excellent communication (written and verbal) and problem-solving skills.
- Proficient in computer software applications.
- Professional experience working effectively with individuals from a variety of backgrounds and perspectives.
Desirable Qualifications:- Experience in a customer focused, team-oriented environment.
- Professional experience (typically 5-7 years) in electrical engineer role for capital and non-capital projects
- Experience with project management software such as BlueBeam, Microsoft Projects, etc.
- Experience in sustainability design practices, laboratory and/or MEPT capital improvement projects and/or state building inspection procedures.
- Experience with commissioning processes and/or state building inspection procedures.
- Extensive experience with Quality Management.
- Understanding of the total-cost-ownership approach to project decision making and other effective practices supporting facilities stewardship.
