Electrical Engineers are responsible for:
- Designing electrical systems for commercial, institutional, industrial, healthcare, and multifamily projects: systems include AC power distribution, interior and exterior lighting, fire alarm and other building support systems
- Supervising and checking the work of Electrical Designers assigned to the project team
- Coordinating technical project requirements with project team members, including clients, contractors, code officials, utility companies, project managers, designers, and other disciplines
- Sealing drawings in jurisdictions where licensed
- Calculations including photometrics, voltage drop, fault current, etc.
- Calculating power, current, and other required quantities
- Designing power distribution systems, including panelboards, switchboards, overcurrent protection, transformers, disconnect switches, conductors, raceway, wiring devices, generators, etc.
- Have strong knowledge of types and requirements of electrical systems and their components, e.g., equipment types, manufacturers, resources, etc.
- Performing both interior and exterior lighting design using ElumTools, Lithonia Visual, or similar lighting software
- Performing energy code compliance analysis and calculations
- Performing fire alarm design
Qualifications:
- Minimum 5 years' experience in the design of commercial, institutional, industrial, healthcare, and/or multifamily electrical systems
- B.S. Degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET/EAC accredited program
- Professional Engineering licensure required with multistate eligibility
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Able to independently attend project meetings and to present specific aspects of engineering assignments
- Able to lead the electrical design effort for assigned projects with minimal supervision
- Able to work well in a team environment
- Demonstrated ability to perform all aspects of electrical engineering for building systems, including:
- Demonstrated knowledge of applicable codes and standards, including but not limited to the NEC (National Electrical Code), NFPA 101 Life Safety Code, NFPA 72 (National Fire Alarm Code), building codes, energy codes, etc.
- Proficient in writing and editing specifications using the CSI MasterFormat standard
- Proficient in performing due diligence field work to gather relevant information needed for design
- Proficient in construction administration tasks such as reviewing product submittals and shop drawings, responding to Requests for Information (RFI's), inspecting projects at various stages of construction, and providing field reports
- Strong computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
- Experience with SKM or similar electrical modeling software is a plus
- AutoCAD and/or Revit MEP experience is a plus
- Proficiency in AutoCAD a plus
- Proficiency in REVIT MEP a plus
- Project management experience a plus
