Associate Engineer - Protection & Controls Engineering
12-month CTH
New York, NY (hybrid)
$35-40/Hr
Job Responsibilities:
• Design and apply relay protection systems, including teleprotection channels and metering,
for ConEdison's transmission and distribution system.
• Perform short circuit studies, relay coordination studies, and relay setting calculations under
mentor supervision.
• Collaborate with various engineering disciplines and field departments to ensure successful
completion of assignments.
• Support lead engineer on projects, create scoping documents, estimates, and requests,
following Central Engineering processes.
• Participate in engineering design review meetings and act as a technical liaison with external
vendors.
• Provide real-time support during the commissioning of relay systems, including nights and
weekends.
• Develop documentation for relay protection systems for operational, compliance, and
record keeping purposes.
• Follow compliance requirements, create and maintain documentation, participate in audits,
and prepare responses.
• Represent Con Edison on regional relay protection committees if required.
• Be available periodically 24/7 to consult on relay problems and emergencies.
• Perform other tasks and assignments as required.
Minimum Qualifications: (Must haves)
• Bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical Engineering.
• Strong technical competence, organizational skills, and attention to detail.
• Ability to handle multiple assignments with changing priorities and deadlines.
• Demonstrated analytical abilities and a commitment to engineering excellence.
• Team player with high energy and a positive work ethic.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Computer proficiency in MS Office.
Preferred Qualifications: (Nice to haves)
• Experience in setting relays, performing coordination and fault studies, developing logic, and
using related software.
• Ability to write specifications and standards, and knowledge of industry standards and
regulations (IEEE, IEC, PRC, etc).
• Project management skills with a proven record in implementing multi-discipline projects.
