Job Title: Electrical Engineer I (Knowledge Analyst - Electrical Engineering)

Duration: 12 Months (with possible extension)

Location: Chicago, IL (Hybrid)

Duties:

As a Knowledge Analyst, you will play a key role in evaluating and driving client growth and sustainability opportunities. You will work with teams to guide the creation of our clients' current and future portfolios, as well as driving productivity and innovation across their various functions, including engineering, procurement, and product management.

You will typically work in teams of 2–3 analysts and experts. You may often be collocated at a client site with other consultants responsible for the diagnosis, analysis, and implementation of business initiatives tailored to help our clients improve margins and reduce costs. Working closely with client stakeholders is key to establishing buy-in and growing client capabilities. The ownership of individual work and the ability to create impact as an individual is necessary to be successful.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Reverse engineering of products and services
  • Determining critical product or materials specifications and feature/attribute comparisons
  • Product cost modeling for design and procurement outcomes

You will gain exposure across several industries and clients, including:

  • Consumer electronics
  • Automotive
  • Aerospace
  • Global energy and materials
  • Light/heavy industrial
  • Medical

In addition, you will work in cooperation with a worldwide network of consultants to shape thinking in this area, continuously developing your own knowledge, as well as that of the firm.

You will be working as part of the Operations practice, which assists clients in solving complex operational challenges. Blending strategic thinking with hands-on practicality, teams work to develop and implement operational strategies that solve the most critical problems.

The Design Labs work closely with clients and teams on an integrative approach to product development and procurement that considers what customers want, what competitors offer, and what it costs to manufacture and distribute the end product. The team uses several key tools and software integrated with personal experience to deliver impact across several product development and procurement levers including product matrix optimization, complexity reduction, design for manufacturing/assembly, and commercial excellence.

Required:

  • 2+ years of electrical design and manufacturing experience in roles such as R&D, testing, and systems integration preferred. Experience in Tier 1 and Tier 2 automotive companies is a plus.
  • Knowledge and experience with PCBA design and manufacture including high-frequency PCB design, signal integrity and EMC/EMI considerations, IC functionality, etc. Knowledge of wiring systems, power transmission distribution considered a plus.
  • Familiarity with Altium, OrCAD, Eagle. Familiarity with AutoCAD considered a plus.
  • Proficient communicator, capable of working in multinational environments, self-motivated.
  • Willingness/ability to travel, if needed.
  • Ability to impact individually or as a collaborative member of a team, capable of working well with others but also autonomously with little direction.
  • Experience in starting projects, managing multiple priorities, and working effectively in the face of ambiguity.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented individual.
  • Excellent presentation skills with a focus on communicating complex ideas clearly.
  • Creative and strategic thinker with the ability to analyze and synthesize data.
  • NCEES certificate in the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) or professional engineer (PE) in electrical engineering preferred.

  • A bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or analogous technical degree required; Top programs preferred (e.g., MIT, Carnegie Mellon, Cal Tech, Stanford, Harvard, Princeton, Columbia, etc).
