Electrical Inspector

This Electrical Inspector position is a great opportunity for a professional who's looking to provide consumer protection and public safety for all Idahoans.

This position will serve Blackfoot, American Falls, Idaho Falls, and the surrounding area. The specific city this position will be based out of will depend upon the residence of the successful applicant. The anticipated work schedule is 40 hours per week, with some occasional overtime required.

Example of Duties:

  • Conducts inspections or reviews of activities, including determining compliance with applicable codes, regulations, and laws;
  • Provides technical advice and corrective actions;
  • Oversees implementation of safety codes, regulations, and laws;
  • Conducts on-site inspections, investigate complaints, and seeks compliance with regulations and safety standards;
  • Assembles and prepares background information and documentation regarding noncompliance activities, code violations, safety reviews, and licensure discrepancies;
  • Provides technical expertise to building officials, building representatives, contractors, and the public;
  • Assists management and legal staff in addressing violations and possibly testifying in court or in administrative hearings

Physical Activities:

  • Walking throughout the day;
  • Crawling in and out of confined spaces including attics and crawl spaces;
  • Climbing series of stairs in multistory buildings;
  • Climbing ladders up to 14 feet high;
  • Driving a state vehicle throughout the day;
  • Moving building material weighing up to 50 pounds

Minimum Qualifications

Experience:

  • analyzing data for the purposes of making recommendations;
  • operating a personal computer;
  • analyzing data and preparing written reports

Valid driver's license.

MQ Specialties:

  • Licensure in Idaho as a Journeyman Electrician and at least four years' experience as a Journeyman Electrician in accordance with Idaho Code, Section 54-1019;
  • Experience interpreting building diagrams, plans, and specifications

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous certification as an Electrical Inspector is not required but may improve your standing as an applicant. Additionally, the successful candidate will be required to obtain certification through the Division of Occupational and Professional Licenses within six months of hire
