ELECTRICAL MAINTENANCE COORDINATOR 61680 (Competitive) DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS The work involves second line supervision of a number of skilled, semi-skilled, and relatively unskilled workers in electrical maintenance and repair work. Employees in this class areadministrative supervisors but may be called upon to perform any task associated with electrical maintenance repair. Incumbents assign staff, administer corrective and preventive maintenance programs, training programs and provide technical support for own maintenance section and prepare annual budgets. An employee in this class will be required to operate a motor vehicle. Does related work as required. TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES Performs activities listed in the job specification for Maintenance Electrician Crew Leader. Supervises and coordinates the work for subordinate maintenance crew leader and crew of skilled, semi-skilled, and relatively unskilled employees. Determines administrative requirements of section including personnel, training, discipline, manpower and materials. Updates operational and maintenance manuals and drawings to reflect any and all known modifications to equipment. Prepares, as needed, sketches or directions concerning work to be performed. Assigns staff special projects and provides instructions or plans and interprets same as needed. Establishes preventive and corrective maintenance procedures and schedules. Inspects work sites to assure programs are being properly carried out. Fulfills reporting requirements relating to schedules, project status, assigned staff and material used. Evaluates work performed of subordinate employees. Participates in the development of standard operating procedures. FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS Extensive knowledge of methods, materials, tools and applicable codes, and equipment used in installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical system and equipment. Thorough knowledge of practices, techniques, and electrical theory associated with the electrical trade. Good knowledge of the principles and practices of supervision. Skill in the use of a variety of hand and powered tools and motorized equipment. Ability to provide second line supervision of others in a manner conducive to full performance and high morale, and in accordance to departmental policy. Ability to plan and lay out electrical work. Ability to read and interpret plans, diagrams and specifications. Ability to use a variety of tools and test equipment used in electrical work. Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions. Ability to perform moderate to heavy labor. Ability to conduct on the job and classroom instruction on operation and maintenance of electrical equipment. As Assigned: Ability to operate a motor vehicle. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Promotion: Two (2) years of permanent competitive class status as a Maintenance Electrician Crew Leader. Open Competitive: Seven (7) years of work experience, or its part-time equivalent, in installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems and equipment which must have included laying out of work and diagnosis of malfunctions, two (2) years must have included first line supervision of electrical maintenance personnel. NOTE: Graduation from a regionally accredited college or university or one accredited by the New York State Board of Regents to grant degrees with an associate's degree in electrical engineering technology or engineering or technical curriculum which relates to electrical construction or maintenance or repair of electrical equipment may substitute for a maximum of two (2) years of non-supervisory work experience. SPECIAL NECESSARY REQUIREMENT When required to operate a motor vehicle, possession of a valid New York State Non-CDL or CDL, including any special endorsements as required for the type of vehicle being operated. 8/09 Revised
