The EIC will be a discovery machine for unlocking the secrets of the glue that binds the building blocks of visible matter in the universe. The machine design is based on the existing and highly optimized RHIC Ion-Ion collider. It will consist of two intersecting accelerators, one producing an intense beam of electrons, the other a beam of protons or heavier atomic nuclei which are steered into collisions. Beyond sparking scientific discoveries in a new frontier of fundamental physics, the Electron-Ion Collider will trigger technological breakthroughs that have broad-ranging impact on human health and national challenges.Position DescriptionBNL's Electron-Ion Collider (EIC) seeks an Electrical Safety Engineer to work with other electrical engineers, mechanical engineers, and technicians developing and writing workplans, work permits, and other safety related documents for the EIC. The EIC Rapid Cycling Synchrotron, Electron Storage Ring, and Hadron Ring, use high current electromagnets that run in DC mode, ramped mode, and fast pulsed mode with various power supply types and cable types, both high and low voltage. This Electrical Safety Engineer will be required to understand the hazards associated with this equipment during the work planning process to ensure the safety of the engineers and technicians working on this equipment. This engineer will also work closely with safety personnel to be sure all NEC codes are strictly enforced and all job planning processes are completed before any job begins.
