Job DescriptionElectrical Manager Job OverviewThe Electrical Manager is responsible for all electrical maintenance and repair at Wheaton College including the 4160V electrical grid, electrical distribution, building electrical, fire alarms and ancillary systems. Responsibilities include supervision of the Electrical Shop and the electrical trade personnel, oversight of a comprehensive Preventive Maintenance (PM) program, reactive maintenance, and electrical review and support for campus construction projects. The Electrical Manager has oversight for compensation and operating budgets as well as an annual funded-depreciation projects budget. Reports to the Director of Construction and Maintenance. Duties and ResponsibilitiesMaintenance Program Execution1. Review electrical work orders, organize, schedule and direct the work of three full time electrical employees and six part time employees in the summer. Close out work orders upon completion.2. Review, organize, schedule and assign preventative maintenance work orders to electrical staff. Close out work orders upon completion.3. Bid, Schedule and oversee the maintenance and cleaning of all 4160 volt switch gear and transformers as needed.4. Partner with the campus lighting project manager to identify and complete LED lighting upgrade projects.5. Bid, Schedule and oversee the annual required fire alarm inspections.6. Determine the scope of work and materials needed for minor electrical projects. Develop accurate cost estimates, material availability and cost effective solutions for installation and repair work.7. Work with Director of Construction and Design Teams to update and improve campus electrical equipment selections and standards.8. Identify, estimate and communicate to Facilities Director what the campus funded depreciation projects for a 3 year budget.9. Review as-built plans, blueprints and specifications as needed to complete work.10. Learn to use e-procurement system to order materials.11. Perform journey-level electrician work as needed to meet deadlines and assure proper service to campus clients.12. Use computer systems to accomplish tasks, including the work order management and procurement systems, e-mail, calendars and spreadsheets; maintain work records and write reports as needed.13. Operate service vehicles such as vans and trucks to transport tools, equipment and personnel to various job sites.Organizational Leadership and Engagement1. Positively support all management decisions and actively promote the mission and values of Wheaton College.2. Assume a high level of ownership in all electrical matters at the College.3. Set employee goals, coach and provide feedback throughout the year, address performance shortfalls effectively and write end-of-year employee performance reviews.4. Communicate and collaborate in a positive way with other Facilities Department Managers and Trade Shop employees, Constructions Services Project Managers and the Wheaton College Design Team.5. Provide effective campus wide planning, coordination and communication during planned electrical outages. Provide effective leadership and communication during unplanned outages.6. Continuously promote a safe work environment.Coordination1. Keep other trade managers and director informed of project status, work progress, required project materials and equipment.2. Team with project managers to develop project estimates.3. Participate in project meetings when scheduled.4. Participate in trade coordination meetings.5. Develop weekly work schedules and prioritize projects6. Be attentive to the timeline of all projects. Resolve problems and raise issues quickly.7. Organize, schedule, assign and close work orders.8. Create, track and close purchase orders in the e-procurement system.Compliance1. Know and ensure that electrical personnel comply with occupational health and safety regulations specific to performance of the work. This will include Safety Data Sheet (SDS) instructions, Hazard Review Checklists (HRCs) and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as required. Implement immediate corrective action when safety deficiencies occur. Lead by example in the area of safety.2. Maintain professional knowledge of industry standards to ensure the best products at the best prices are obtained.3. Manage the required inspection for all fire alarm and life safety equipment.4. Maintain and repair emergency notification systems on campus. Demonstrated successful experience as a lead or master electrician.2. Ten years of full-time experience as a journeyman electrician or equivalent training.3. Electrician's license and evidence of certification.4. Knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC), NFPA 72, and all other relevant codes and ordinances.12. Ability to work in confined spaces and heights using appropriate safety precautions.13. Ability to work in a smoke-free environment.14. Ability to lift and move heavy materials as required15. Must be able to work outside under all weather conditions.16. Have and maintain a valid Illinois driver's license.Preferred1. Experience with medium voltage distribution systems.2. Experience with maintaining fire alarm systems.3. Experience with the programming, troubleshooting and repair of commercial lighting automation systems (various manufacturers).4. Experience with understanding, troubleshoot and repair of complex motor control circuits serving physical plan equipment including over -current device selection and settings.5. Experience with commercial electrical distribution systems including emergency power, life safety and equipment branch systems, transformers, busway systems and motor control centers.6. Experience with the set-up and programming of PLCs in motor control applications.7. Experience with programming, startup and diagnostic repair of variable frequency drives (VFDs).8. Knowledge and experience with Predictive Maintenance Technologies which may include vibration analysis, infrared imaging thermography, data-log analysis and power quality analysis.Physical RequirementsThe employee is regularly required to talk, hear, walk, stand, sit, kneel, crawl, stand on a ladder or scaffolding, reach, squat and work with hands above head for long periods of time. Required to use repetitive hand motion, handle or feel objects and work outside during all weather conditions (including extreme heat, cold, rain, snow, etc.) and for extended periods of time.
