Position Overview The Lead-Acid Battery Laboratory Test Engineer will support the C&D/Trojan Corporate Lead-Acid Battery Laboratory with product testing and other laboratory activities. The Corporate Battery Laboratory conducts testing in support of C&D/Trojan's various lead acid battery product offerings from UPS, Telecom, and Switchgear stationary applications to golf cart, motive, and solar applications. Laboratory testing activities will include performing and documenting laboratory tests on batteries and battery components, including plastics, adhesives, by collecting and analyzing test data associated with lead-acid battery, electrical, physical characteristics, and summarizing results and presenting findings. Responsibilities
  • Perform electrical testing on batteries following laboratory procedures with minimal supervision while working closely with other members of the laboratory team
  • Operate electrical instrumentation to measure the performance of batteries.
  • Program and operate data acquisition equipment in the lab to monitor voltage, temperature, and current over time
  • Write technical reports based upon product testing data for engineering group
  • Assist engineering groups in performing teardown evaluations of the product
  • Assists Engineering and Quality personnel in field returns and/or warranty analysis
  • Perform work following proper laboratory safety and housekeeping practices and internal procedures
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in related field, such as Chemical, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science; or 4+ years of experience in a related discipline
  • Microsoft Office Suite competency
  • Ability to clearly communicate both written and orally.
  • Ability to independently analyze and report data in an acceptable written format
Preferred Qualifications
  • Laboratory, battery, or electrical testing experience
  • Programming laboratory equipment experience
  • Data acquisition equipment experience
  • Understanding of electrical and electrochemical principles
Working Conditions Performance of responsibilities occurs generally in a laboratory devoted to the development and testing of lead-acid batteries, and includes working directly with lead-acid batteries and their components, battery charging and test equipment in the laboratory, and with potentially harmful voltages and currents. Some battery testing may occur within high temperature chambers (120-160F) exposing individual to high temperature/humidity for extended periods (30 minutes at a time). It requires use of standard lab tools and office equipment (telephone, personal computer, printer, fax, photocopy machine), and the ability to handle (push) large batteries (>300 lbs if you like wild growth and working with happy, enthusiastic over-achievers, you'll enjoy your career with us!
