Electrical Worker General (Demolition Department)Print ( Worker General (Demolition Department)Salary$62,643.00 - $64,984.00 AnnuallyLocationDPSH, MIJob TypeCertified-Regular Civil ServiceJob Number202#######1DEMOdjDepartmentDetroit DemolitionOpening Date11/18/2024Closing Date12/31/2024 11:59 PM EasternBargaining Unit2040-Detroit Building and Construction Trades CounDescriptionBenefitsQuestionsDescriptionCONSTRUCTION AND DEMOLITION DEPARTMENTELECTRICAL WORKER GENERALWe are proud that the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has recognized Detroit's demolition program as one of the safest in the country, due to the many steps we take to protect our residents and the environmentUnder the general supervision of an Electrical Worker Sub-Foreman, Electrical Worker Foreman, Plant Maintenance Foreman or designated maintenance supervisor and the general oversight of the Master Electrician of Record, provides journey worker electrical installation, repair and maintenance services and trains and directs the work of registered apprentices.Examples of DutiesEssential Duties and Responsibilities (may perform other duties as assigned)Install, diagnose, and repair transformers, motors and starters, switchgear, programmable logic controllers, relays, and meter equipment.Replace motor bearings and brushes.Install, alter, or replace conduit, wiring, switches, and outlets for lighting and power supply for interior electrical systems, safety zone lights, floodlights, airport signals, control systems, motors, office and residential needs, and other needs as directed.Isolate equipment, locate and clear grounds, short circuits, and electrical or mechanical trouble on primary or secondary electrical circuits and their associated equipment and devices.Maintain and overhaul switchboards and supervisory control equipment.Inspect and maintain primary service installations and power distribution systems in public buildings.Maintain and calibrate electrical meters.Maintain emergency power systems.Ensure allied trades persons on maintenance teams understand electrical safety procedures.Carry tools, parts and supplies to areas of work.Clean machinery, parts and equipment.Ensure that other employees in proximate work area understand basic electrical safety practices such as lockout/tagout procedure.Complete work orders and paperwork related to job tasks.Direct helpers and trains apprentices.Perform duties in accordance with departmental and regulatory safety procedures and standards, including but not limited to the utilization of designated personal protective equipment.Minimum QualificationsQualifications (required):High School graduation or G.E.D.Completion of a United States Department of Labor registered electrical apprenticeship program.Licenses, Certifications, and Other Special Requirements:Valid City of Detroit, State of Michigan Electrical Journeyman or Master Electrician License; Certificate of Apprenticeship Completion.Valid State of Michigan Operator License.Equivalency:Equivalent combinations of education and experience that provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be evaluated on an individual basis.Supplemental InformationEvaluation PlanInterview: 70%Evaluation of Training, Experience & Personal Qualifications: 30%Total of Interview and Evaluation T.E.P: 100%Additional points may be awarded for:Veteran Points: 0 – 15 pointsDetroit Residency Credit: 15 pointsLRD: 01/08/2024Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesKnowledge of principles of electricity and electrical equipment.Knowledge of electrical safety procedures.Knowledge of electrical generation and medium voltage power distribution.Knowledge of the National Electrical Safety Code and the National Electric Code.Skill in safe and proper use of the hand and electrical tools of the trade.Skill in strength and dexterity required to perform duties of class.Skill in reading blueprints, wiring and schematic diagrams, and understanding and following written instructions.Ability to write reports, use a personal computer, and learn specialized workplace software.Ability to demonstrate initiative and resourcefulness in handling difficult problems of installation, maintenance, and repair.Ability to instruct and direct the work of others.Ability to lift small electric motors or other electric components.Physical DemandsCapable of lifting min 50lbCapable of working at heights above 20'Able to spend long periods standingWork EnvironmentMost work is performed in the field.Outdoor and indoor projects.Must be capable of with standing extreme temperatures and inclement weather.Candidates considered for placement in this classification may be subject to a Criminal Background Investigation based on the requirements of the position.The above statements reflect the general nature and level of work performed by employees assigned to this class. Essential duties may vary from position to position.Electrical Worker – General Special Service – Limited Term 82-62-04Special Service – Limited Term employees shall have only those fringe benefits as stipulated in a labor agreement between the City of Detroit and the Greater Detroit Building and Construction Trades Council.
