Uses voltmeters, ampmeters, and light testers in the course of work to check continuity, voltages, and amperage. Phase out electric circuits, checks new installation of the three-phase clothes dryers, balancing of loads due to installation of new equipment. Trouble shoots electrical circuits 120-480-volt lines in all campus buildings. Repairs, reinstalls, or replaces lamp posts due to vandalism or accidents. Determines shorts, grounding of circuits. Repairs or replaces electric heaters, bad transformers, oven temperature controls, thermostats, burned wiring, 208- or 277-volt heater elements. Repairs, replaces, and sets modulating motors in univents, replaces elements, fuses, timers, motors, contact points in repairing hair or hand dryers. Checks circuit-switches as needed. Identified or ring-circuits. Uses tools applicable to electrical work and returns them to proper location. Makes a daily report on record of parts and supplies used. Maintains work location in a neat and orderly manner. Also performs related work as required.Utilizes wiremold and conduit accessories, used with the added circuits in buildings, bends both thin wall and rigid conduits. Uses proper tools for drilling holes in masonry or wood. Lays out work projects, routing, size, and other necessary materials to complete job, replaces broken leads, switched on electrical motors. Replaces light bulbs and fluorescent tubes as due to bulb and tube life and vandalism, replaces ballasts, pulls new wiring in conduit in place of defective wiring, and replaces switches, duplex receptacles. Repairs and replaces float switches, motorized control valves. Adjusts electric contractors, working in conjunction with steam or pneumatic units, installs conduit and wiremold as needed.Installs circuits for sophisticated electrical or electronic equipment such as circuits for electron microscopes, thermolyne furnaces, and automatic refrigerators and other scientific machines, also special lighting transformers and circuits for electronic piano and organs. Installs circuits for coolers and humidifiers and thermostats in greenhouse. Repairs various types of appliances such as scrubbers, polishers, vacuum cleaners, fans, pumps, hand dryers and refrigeration equipment. Checks elevators for possible repairable conditions as a stopgap until contracted repairman arrives. Assists in removing persons trapped in broken elevators, using special technical knowledge required for safe removal.Required Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
- Knowledge of the practices, methods, materials, hazards, and safety precautions of the electrical trades.
- Knowledge of electrical codes and regulations relevant to electrical systems, components, and equipment that operate with up to 480 volts of electricity.
- Knowledge of the care and use of tools for testing, installing, repairing, and maintaining electrical systems, fixtures, and components that operate with up to 480 volts of electricity.
- Knowledge of the electronic components of digitally controlled equipment, including controllers, sensors, and wiring.
- Knowledge of the use and functionality of Microsoft Office Suite software.
- Ability to locate and repair electrical defects in equipment operating with up to 480 volts of electricity.
- Ability to read, interpret, and apply electrical blueprints, manufacturers' manuals, and schematics to the selection of electrical components and the work lay out for a project.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical measuring devices.
- Ability to perform math functions including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally.
- Ability to communicate effectively in writing.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
