University of Virginia's Facilities Management (FM) Housing Zone is seeking an Electrician/Electrician Senior Assistant . Electricians provide labor and technical knowledge for installation and maintenance of building components and mechanical systems while providing a safe environment. Electricians perform work of moderate difficulty which involves repairing, installing, connecting, and maintaining electrical systems and equipment in buildings. The selected candidate must have written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills, along with the ability to interpret and work from blueprints.
An ELECTRICIAN SENIOR ASSISTANT assists Electricians and works independently as appropriate, cleans job sites, trains on more advanced installations and emergency repairs, and follows all customer service and safety protocols. A high school diploma is required with a minimum of four years of related experience. The incumbent hired at this level will be considered for promotion once they have attained the required experience and licensure for the next level. A valid driver's license is also required.
An ELECTRICIAN performs journey level installation, repair, and maintenance work on electrical systems and equipment in buildings, including emergency backup systems, alarms, and life-support equipment. They receive orders from the supervisor and perform duties at the job site, receiving some guidance. They can independently determine methods of accomplishing work orders and carry out all phases, but will have more assistance when assigned larger projects. A high school diploma, f our years of experience at the journeyman level, and current Journey level electrical license required.
Electricians are not to work on any voltage exceeding 600 volts.
Facilities Management (FM) supports the University of Virginia's wide range of research, academic and patient care programs. With over 1,200 employees dedicated to excellence, Facilities Management is responsible for the day-to-day operation, repair and maintenance of UVA's buildings, infrastructure, and grounds as well as other University-owned and leased properties.
ELECTRICIAN SENIOR ASSISTANT duties include:
* Assist skilled journey level mechanics in performing routine system maintenance, preventative maintenance, building, construction, equipment repairs, assessing problems, undertaking corrective actions, and site cleanup. Can address specialized areas within a specific trade, such as quality and temperature control.
* Develop an increasing knowledge of types of material and equipment used for the various utility systems involved in University projects.
* Maintain accurate records on time tickets, job requests, and work orders.
* Determine material and equipment for specific jobs, as well as initiate purchase orders.
* Maintain compliance with OSHA, federal, state, and local regulations. Use personal safety equipment as instructed, and act in accordance with safety guidelines.
* Meet with and respond to customer requests on work status in coordination with supervisor.
* In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.
ELECTRICIAN duties Include:
* Install and maintain electrical equipment, components and lighting fixtures with proper wiring and material.
* Perform preventative maintenance, diagnostics, repairs, and wiring for Academic and Health System electrical systems.
* Specify, estimate, and install equipment, wiring, and systems in accordance with applicable standards and requirements.
* Layout and locate areas to cut or drill holes and openings for installation of sleeve or inserts for passage and support for pipe, fittings, and wire.
* Respond to emergency requests.
* Inform customers of job status, reasons for and duration of expected delays, as well as refer customers to the supervisor when appropriate.
* Perform all work in accordance with safety rules and procedures, such as OSHA, federal, state, and local regulations, the National Electrical Code, and The Joint Commission.
* Assist other trades and become familiar with various equipment and sequence of operation.
* Perform miscellaneous duties such as snow and ice removal and special events setups, as assigned by the supervisor.
* In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.
Compensation :
* Electrician Senior Assistant: $21.00 to $25.00 per hour ($43,680 - $52,000 Annually).
* Electrician: $24.00 - $29.00 ($49,920 - $60,320 annually).
Selected candidates will be required to complete all required background checks prior to the first day of employment.

Minimum Qualifications:
* Education: High School diploma or equivalent for Electrician level.
* Experience: 4 years of Electrical experience for Electrician; Four years of work experience in building, construction, or technical trades; trades or construction-related education may be considered in lieu of experience, up to two years for Electrician Assistant level.
* Licensure: Journeyman or higher license for Electrician level.
Physical Demands:
The employee must be able to variously sit, stand, walk, climb stairs and ladders, crawl, stoop, bend, squat, lift, pull, and use both hands-on repetitive tasks (including overhead tasks). The e mployee will be required to crawl, kneel, squat, bend and twist in order to perform their work. Employee must travel around job sites. Employee will work with materials of different weights and perform repetitive motions. The employee must have normal vision and hearing (correctable), and for some areas of employment, color vision and sense of smell.
