Categories: Facilities/MaintenancePosition Summary: The Electrician VII installs, maintains and repairs electrical wiring and other electrical related devices.Position Responsibilities:
- Install new electrical wiring and control devices according to blueprints, schematics, drawings and sketches in compliance with National Electric Code and local ordinances
- Install, maintain and repair sub-station switchgear, circuit breakers, transformers, voltage regulators, motor starters, distribution panels, relays, timers and other control devices
- Maintain fractional to 100 H.P. motors
- Install cafeteria, laundry and other building appliances, such as clocks, fans and lighting fixtures
- Test continuity of circuits to ensure electrical compatibility and safety of components, using testing instruments
- Check for proper polarity of multi-phase systems before connecting equipment or energizing circuits
- Effect repairs to malfunctioning components of fire protection systems such as interior fire alarm, standpipe, sprinkler and smoke detection systems
- Erect scaffolding or set up ladders to perform tasks above ground. Keep work areas neat and clean
- Perform duties assigned as a member of the Fire Brigade
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Experience & Educational Background:
- High School Diploma
- 3 years of experience in the electrical trade is required
- Construction/manufacturing industry experience is preferred
- Valid state driver's license is preferred
Skills & Competencies:
- Must possess the strength and dexterity needed to perform the job and the physical ability to move equipment as necessary
- Must adhere to operational safety rules and regulations as deemed by the University
- Must be able to follow directives and possess good communication skills and ability to interact with building/office occupants effectively
- Must possess working knowledge of the electrical code
- Must possess working knowledge of all types of light fixtures
- Must possess working knowledge of all types of conduits and raceways
- Must possess working knowledge of basic wiring for lights and power
- Must possess working knowledge of all hand and power tools
- Must possess working knowledge of basic electric test equipment
- Must have a working knowledge of all materials and fasteners in accordance with the electrical code
- Respirator Fit Testing may be required
