This position provides skilled, journeyman-level work in the installation, modification, maintenance, and repair of a variety of industrial electrical and electronic systems and equipment. An employee in this position is responsible for performing assignments of more than average difficulty, requiring the application of electrical trade skills in the diagnosis, installation, maintenance, and repair of highly complex electrical wiring systems, lighting equipment, motors, industrial motor control systems, generators, transformers, and other electrical and electronic systems and equipment.
* Troubleshoots, tests, repairs, and replaces motor controls, motors, transformers, generators, and various electrical components.
* Installs new and upgrades existing motor controls, motors, control systems, transformers, generators, wiring, and other electrical components.
* Provides preventative maintenance procedures for all electrical equipment contained within the stormwater pumping stations.
* Attends operational and safety training.
* Receive and review various records and reports including work requests, plans, specifications, etc.
* Installs, alters, maintains, repairs, and examines electrical wiring systems, fixtures, panels, motors, generators, transformers, and other electrical equipment.
* Performs mechanical assembly and disassembly of electrical components.
* Inspect, diagnose, repair, replace, and maintain the pump station telemetry system, pump station motors, electrical panels, and structural wiring.
* Uses standard and special electrical tools and equipment such as wire locators, voltmeters, ammeters, power meters, and other related tools.
* Operate and maintain electrical equipment in accordance with manufacturer instructions.
* Uses a variety of electronic testing equipment to ensure accurate diagnosis of problems encountered.
* Understands, creates, and/or follows schematic diagrams as needed to correctly depict electrical wiring installations. Work with local code enforcement inspectors and associated pump, motor, panel, and component representatives.
* Prepares sketches for electrical layouts and installation.
* Requisitions supplies and materials and components.
* Maintains adequate records of work performed; submits reports as required.
* May be required to perform stand-by duty, being available and responding to off-duty emergency call-ins to effect repairs to malfunctioning electrical and electronic equipment and systems.
* Serves in Critical Workforce for the Department, requiring service during disasters, weather events such as tropical storms or hurricanes, etc., in a support role at the Critical Workforce Shelter or other assigned locations.
* Performs other related duties as assigned.
High school diploma or GED plus additional vocational education in electrical wiring; with three years of journey-level residential, commercial, and industrial electrical experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving history.

Background investigation, including supervised drug screen, post offer/pre-employment medical screen; and verification of education, certifications, and licenses required prior to employment.

MINIMUM STANDARDS:
SUPERVISORY CONTROLS: The Maintenance Supervisor assigns work in terms of general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results.
GUIDELINES: Guidelines include NEC guidelines. These guidelines are generally clear and specific but may require some interpretation in application.
COMPLEXITY: The work consists of related duties connected to installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical and mechanical equipment. Difficulties in reaching appropriate contact person for jobs contribute to the complexity of the position.
SCOPE AND EFFECT: The purpose of this position is to install, maintain, and repair electrical and mechanical equipment. Successful performance helps ensure the safe and efficient maintenance of city facilities.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The work is typically performed while intermittently standing, walking, bending, crouching, or stooping. The work occasionally lifts light objects, frequently lifts heavy objects, climbs ladders, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, and distinguishes between shades of color.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work is typically performed inside a pumping station or outdoors, where the employee may be exposed to dust, dirt, grease, and cold or inclement weather. The work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, and gloves.
