The Steamship Authority is currently accepting applications to fill an Electrician position within the Maintenance Department primarily working out of the Hyannis Maintenance Facility. Job Summary: In a safe, efficient, and professional manner the Electrician will support the maintenance team in the preventative, corrective, and general maintenance of both marine and shore based electrical systems. Duties include, but are not limited to, daily assessments of systems, assisting other trades in performing general equipment maintenance and repair, maintaining a clean working environment, and other various duties as assigned by management. Maintenance employees must adhere to all health, safety, quality and environmental standards as set by the HSQE Manager and regulatory agencies. The Electrician installs, trouble shoots, and repairs generators, electrical distribution systems, lighting, and other electrical devices and systems. Must have extensive knowledge of generators, electric motors, motor controllers, variable frequency drives, programmable logic controllers, power distribution systems, lighting and other electrical systems both marine and shore based. Should be familiar with low voltage communication and fire alarm systems. Must follow guidelines from the National Electrical Code, USCG as well as local codes (as applicable). Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Maintain and troubleshoot electrical equipment and power distribution systems. Interpret electrical drawings, installation instructions, and work orders. Establish the appropriate procedure to locate and correct electrical problems, and determine electrical component replacements. Troubleshoot electrical problems in power and control circuits of various voltages. Perform high and low voltage splices and terminations as required following codes and regulations. Complete documentation, including but not limited to timesheets, work orders, expense reports, service reports and purchase orders. Conduct general maintenance tasks including, but not limited to, safety training, on-call rotation, assisting other crafts and maintaining tools, stock and vehicles. Perform other duties as assigned by maintenance management. May be required to work weekends as part of a posted maintenance schedule. Qualifications: High school diploma, G.E.D. or equivalent. Computer Literacy. Massachusetts Master Electrician License preferred, minimum of Journeyman Electrician License required. Minimum five years of experience working as an electrician. Marine electrician experience preferred. Experience with electronic controls for marine propulsion, steering and other machinery automation systems preferred. Proven knowledge of the principles of electricity and electrical design, as well as experience in the installation, repair, and maintenance of electrical systems, equipment and fixtures. Must be able to work from electrical drawings, schematics, and sketches. Knowledge of AC and DC control circuits as well as terminology of tools, prints, and equipment. Valid Driver's License.
