Involves the application of electrical, electronic and electro-mechanical skills in the field and in the shop; and emergency standby duty on a scheduled rotating basis; with some exposure to electrical, mechanical and height hazards. Work is performed under supervision and is subject to inspection upon completion. Examples of DutiesESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: (All responsibilities may not be performed by all incumbents.) Controls and works in heavy congested traffic locations. Installs and maintains electrical traffic control devices. Installs and maintains street lighting. Operates heavy equipment such as aerial bucket trucks, forklifts, air compressors, concrete saws, trenchers, and cutting torches. Installs and maintains wiring in public buildings. Installs and maintains fiber optic cable. Performs maintenance of Civil Defense sirens. Attends training as required by department. Performs required standby duty. Performs other related duties as assigned.MATERIAL AND EQUIPMENT USED:Computer Vehicle General Office Equipment Minimum Qualifications High School diploma or GED supplemented by courses in electronics and solid state circuitry, three to five years experience in the skilled maintenance and repair of electronic equipment, a valid CDL Class B or higher driver's license within 6 months of hire required, certified with International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA) within one year of hire. Any combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job considered. Standard practices, methods, tools and equipment used in the electrical industry. Principles of electricity and electrical circuits. Policies and procedures as specified in the Manual on Uniformed Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD). All computer applications and hardware related to performance of the essential functions of the job.Skill in: Using tact, discretion, initiative and independent judgment within established guidelines. Communicating clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing. IMRF Death Benefit - Annual Salary after 1 year's service. Each year beginning with the fifth full year of service, employees will be granted 40 hours of personal time for use during the year.
