VideosDuties
  • Performs the full range of diagnostic major maintenance inspections, new installation, major maintenance, repairs, parts replacement and/or major overhaul on all dam operating systems, machinery, electrical components, and related equipment.
  • Performs major maintenance, rehabilitation and new installation of highly complex electrical systems and equipment.
  • Installs, designs, modifies, adjusts, tests, calibrates, and/or performs major repairs to the above as scheduled and in such a manner so as to minimize costly delays and optimize safety and performance.
  • Responds to emergency situations such as call-outs at night in adverse weather conditions to restore power to project facilities.
  • Inspects, troubleshoots, and/or disassembles the electrical components of the associated equipment at the project, (such as generators, pumps, compressors, etc.) .
  • Reads and comprehends building plans, blueprints, sketches, schematics, engineering drawings, and maintenance and repair manuals to troubleshoot, plan and layout routing, placement, type, size, gauge and balance of electrical circuits and equipment.

  • Incumbent must be able to lift and carry objects up to 50 pounds.
  • Position requires a valid State motor vehicle operator's license prior to appointment and maintain the license for the duration of employment.
  • This position requires the incumbent to possess and maintain a valid Journeyman Electrician License.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
QualificationsWho May Apply: US CitizensIn order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). Additional information about transcripts is in this document.Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Electrician without more than normal supervision. This is defined as performing the following duties under normal supervision in the: (1) Installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical wiring systems, fixtures, controls, and equipment in facilities, through the application of electrical principles, materials, methods, practices, and occupational work and safety standards and use of related necessary tools and equipment. (2) Inspecting, adjusting, testing, and replacing worn or defective electrical apparatus. (3) Operating and installing a variety of high and low voltage, overhead and underground electrical systems, circuits and controls for reservoir facilities including administrative and office buildings; shop areas; storage sheds, restrooms; picnic shelters; recreational facilities; sewage and water treatment plants; underground primary lines; service lines and secondary lines to buildings etc.Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
  • Physical Effort: Work requires frequent standing, stooping, stretching, climbing, and crouching. Lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds, occasionally lifts and carries larger assemblies or complete units exceeding 50 pounds. Uses coordination of eyes, hands, legs, and body in installing, repairing, operating, or testing equipment in confined spaces such as manholes, machinery recesses, outlet stilling basin walls, or on overhead structures; climbs ladders, scaffolding, and works from suspended stages.
  • Working Conditions: Works inside and outside during the day or night, subject to inclement weather, on high structures usually over water which is frequently turbulent, in the proximity of moving machinery and high traffic and noise areas.
