Position Type: Parks/Electrician Laborer Date Posted: 8/30/2024 Location: Mueller Park Maintenance Building Job Title: Electrician Laborer Department: Construction Department Reports To: Construction Manager FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Revised Date: 08/29/24 SUMMARY Under the direct supervision of the Construction Manager, this role assists in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems across Park District facilities. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Install and maintain lighting fixtures, building wiring systems, and other electrical components at Park District buildings and facilities.
  • Operate digger derricks, bucket trucks, and other equipment for electrical maintenance tasks.
  • Maintain and repair gas and heating systems, as well as other appliances.
  • Assist in the removal of dead trees and limbs from District areas.
  • Clean and organize the electrical office and maintain equipment.
  • Support other supervisors with construction and maintenance projects.
  • Plan and implement new or modified electrical installations to minimize material waste, ensure future maintenance access, and adhere to local electrical codes.
  • Prepare sketches or follow diagrams and blueprints for wiring and equipment placement, ensuring concealed wiring is installed before the completion of walls, ceilings, and floors.
  • Measure, cut, bend, thread, assemble, and install electrical conduit; pull and splice wiring through conduit.
  • Connect wiring to lighting fixtures, power equipment, and control/distribution apparatus, including switches, relays, and circuit-breaker panels.
  • Connect power cables to equipment such as electric ranges or motors, and install grounding leads.
  • Test circuit continuity using instruments like ohmmeters, battery testers, and oscilloscopes to ensure electrical compatibility and safety.
  • Monitor installed equipment to identify hazards and determine if adjustments, relocations, or repairs are needed.

  • Associate's degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year of related experience and/or training; or a comparable combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with groups of customers or employees.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability, statistical inference, plane and solid geometry, and trigonometry.
  • Ability to apply fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
REASONING ABILITY
  • Ability to solve practical problems and address a variety of concrete variables with limited standardization.
  • Ability to interpret a range of instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
  • State of Illinois Commercial Driver's License.
