Job Description Position Summary: Duties include maintenance and repair of electrical systems, wiring, auxiliary equipment, secondary distribution wiring, control panels, equipment, streetlights, Engineering Shop equipment, Kitchen Equipment, Boiler Plant Equipment, and all other operating equipment. Duties also include overseeing installation of high voltage and primary distribution switchgear, and transformers and other contracted electrical work. Assist Clinical Engineering with Communications Systems to include installation of wiring, termination of connections, boxes, testing, and programming of individual phones when moves and/or changes are required. Duties also include installation of data cables, testing, and configuration as required. Education, License & Cert: Graduate of two-year trade school, associate degree, or equivalent. Experience: Two years' experience as in industrial/commercial electrician. Must have a good working knowledge of current National Electrical Codes. Experience with hand tools, small power tools and their proper uses. Ability to read and understand blueprints and engineering drawings. Capable of cool, deliberate and calculated action in response to urgent situations. Adheres to all departmental and organizational policies and procedures. Must have normal (or correctable to normal) vision and hearing to effectively monitor equipment, instrumentation and alarms in performing required duties of position. Essential Functions: Performs limited maintenance and repair of the high voltage primary distribution system, which is 12, 470 volts. This procedure includes visual inspection and use of electrical safety equipment such as high voltage rubber gloves and hot sticks. Performs limited maintenance on high voltage and repair and oversees installation of transformers which includes changing high voltage fuses, securing connections, visual inspection, and cleaning of transformer compartments. Performs maintenance on high voltage electrical entrance and is responsible for safe and proper switching procedures and operations. Performs visual inspection and repair of electrical connections and other auxiliary equipment. Operates, inspects and maintains emergency generators throughout the Hospital. Performs maintenance of automatic transfer switches associated with the emergency generators. Records and documents required operation and maintenance of emergency generators and associated equipment. Performs installation, maintenance and repair of secondary distribution electrical systems, three phase and single phase with voltages of 480/240/208/120 volts respectively. Performs maintenance and oversees repair of chair lifts. Must have the ability to interpret and apply electrical wiring diagrams, schematics and as-built electrical drawings for electrical equipment and systems. Repairs and tests all electrical systems including load balance, continuity and proper operation and all defects are reported to supervisor. Determines the size, type and gauge of wiring, conduit fittings, relays, electrical and electronic controls, motor control equipment, electric panels, gauges, and circuit breakers in accordance with current National Electrical Codes as required by assigned duties.
