Under the direction of the Alarm Shop Electrical Supervisor and/or Manager for Electrical Systems, oversee and coordinate the work of the Alarm Shop Electricians, Facilities Mechanics, and Facilities Workers who are responsible for campus-wide and Center for Health Sciences Alarm projects including fixed priced jobs for tenant improvement projects, Deferred Maintenance projects, Fire Alarm periodic scheduled maintenance; Fire Alarm trouble call issues, and support to all Project Managers for multi-craft projects. Review and coordinate daily schedules and work; interface with client. Conduct job site assessment and evaluation; develop and review estimates; resolve project problems, coordinate outages, and ensure job is closed and charged properly; participate in the Disaster Initial Response Team.

  • Satisfactory completion of a certified 4-year apprenticeship Satisfactory completion of a certified 4-year apprenticeship or equivalent education and experience. (Required) Or
  • Detailed knowledge of all aspects of the alarm trade and related codes sufficient to direct work, evaluate progress and ensure that craft work assignments meet stated standards. (Required)
  • Working knowledge of electromechanical systems, solid state controlled electrical devices, various power distribution equipment, auxiliary equipment and motor control systems. (Required)
  • Skill in working with both digital and analog electrical devices/systems (i.e. microprocessors, programmable controllers, logic control devices). (Preferred)
  • Working knowledge of materials equipment and tools of the Electrician's trade and ability to use a variety of power or hand tools and electronic testing equipment (Required)
  • Ability to oversee/coordinate the work of Electricians, Facilities Mechanics, and Facilities Workers in order to assist Supervisor with feedback, counseling and providing information for performance evaluations and provide training/orientation. Ability to coordinate with other construction trades (Required)
  • Effective oral communications skills to obtain and convey accurate information. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships and maintain a positive and respectful attitude. (Required)
  • Ability to perform basic math accurately and efficiently in order to maintain and monitor budgets of projects, review estimates, shop expenditures etc. (Required)
  • Ability to read work project specifications, blue prints, and technical trade related manuals and troubleshoot and repair alarm systems and equipment for malfunctions, signs of damage, deterioration, or adjustment. (Required)
  • Working knowledge of basic electrical theory including AC/DC systems applications, protective relaying, NFPA 72, NEC/CEC, OSHA general safety rules, equipment, CA Administrative Codes including Titles 19, 22, 24, ADA, Joint Commissions and OSHPD that may affect projects, projected costs or personnel (Required)
  • Demonstrated ability to schedule, plan prioritize assignments, organizes work assignments of crew, manage and coordinate a computerized work scheduling program for multi-crews working on various projects simultaneously, and complete projects in a timely manner (Required)
  • Ability to use personal computer and standard office software such as Word, Excel etc. and the ability to program panels with manufacturer's supplied software. (Required)
  • Working knowledge of construction trade practices and safety requirements sufficient to oversee all phases of repair and renovation work, prepare multicraft estimates, work scopes, budgets and schedules; address project delays/disruptions and bring to closure within stated timeframes and guidelines (Required)
  • Education, Licenses, Certifications, & Professional Affiliations:
  • Possession of California General Electrician Certificate, and/or California Fire/Life Tech certification. (Required) Or
  • Special Conditions of Employment:
  • Background Check: Continued employment is contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory background investigation.
  • Age Requirement: Candidate(s) must be 18 years or older to be eligible to be hired.
  • Pre-Placement Physical: Employment is contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory physical examination.
  • Driving Record: The position is subject to the California DMV Pull Notice System and continued employment is contingent upon proof of a satisfactory driving record.
